Selling Ammo through this forum

Just wondering, I’m thinking of selling some of my extra ammo. Me and the boys aren’t shooting as often, so thinking to turn the excess ammo into some cash, but not sure of selling it here.

Just wondering if anyone has had any “questionable” buyers when selling here. Since this is an anonymous forum, how do you really know if a buyer is legit or safe? Or if the buyer is trying to set you up?

Someone just posted the other day a “questionable” transaction when selling a handgun, and the potential buyer turned out to be real shaky, and bailed at the last minute.

So, those of you who have sold items to an “anonymous” member here, would you recommend it? Thanks in advance.

I’ve not had any issues, either with the reboot or the original forum. We all know NJ is a strange place gun wise, so you follow the rules and all is well. Plus you bump into some cool folks you wouldn’t meet otherwise.

I’ve never had an issue in completing a sale or purchase. I do vet the seller if I do not know them, eg they are not regulars. Randos get the full treatment. At least two or three Q&A rounds before personal info is given.

Whether here or FB or CL or anywhere, it is the seller’s and buyer’s responsibility to not get juked. Use common sense and do not ignore flags.

I haven’t sold ammo recently.

I have sold a lot in the past.

When I did, I’d require the buyers to show me a NJ FID and DL and I’d verify the names matched, and I was up front that it would be required before meeting for the sale. Seemed to work well.

Double D sold me ammo 7 years ago on the old forum, hung around ever since.

I have done the same, never an issue, due diligence is a must.

Yeah, I would absolutely do that too, have the DL and FID match. Hopefully they will provide it when we meet up.

I guess my concern is dealing with a new member or a member with a limited posting history. As I said above, this is an anonymous forum, so anyone can join, so we just don’t know.

When you sell a handgun or long gun, the transaction goes through a FFL to do the paperwork, so there’s another layer of safety. Selling an accessory is no big deal.

But with ammo, and the guidelines the retail dealers have to do, with seeing a FID, someone could try and skirt that by buying through here. Yeah, I can request they show it we meet, but what happens if the have nefarious intentions, and show up without, and try and take advantage.. over a few hundred bucks of ammo…

Maybe I’m just being a bit too cautious…

I didn’t want to start a new post so I’m slipping this in here .

PSA. won’t ship ammo to nj

NJ is so whacked…. I was in FSS and the guy said he wouldn’t sell me any gun accessories without an FID card…. I was looking for a cleaning rod for a shotgun…..

Meet in a public place with plenty of people around. As others have said, tell them BEFORE meeting that they must present you with matching ID & FID when you meet.

Count the money THEN give them what you are selling. Ask them to check what you sold them and ask if everything is good or if they have any questions. Say “Was nice meeting you, have a great day.” Move on with your life.

Keep it simple and don’t over think things. You can’t control what people do after you sell them anything. You aren’t doing anything illegal.

I’ve purchased a scope and a few firearms all from different people on the forum. Never had a problem.

Good luck!

Don’t forget that to sell handgun ammo to someone they must have a FID, PtPP or PCH. This is the law, not just you trying to be cautious.

What? This is my go to FFL for years. I have never heard or seen anything negative from these guys. Who were you dealing with? Definitely not like them at all.

Same thing happened to me at shore shot. Was visiting the shop and waiting for my FID. Tried to buy some Hoppes #9 and was told no-go w/o an FID….

No longer a problem for me but that was a shocker / laugher

This is a result of Platkin’s overzealous pursuit of anybody in the firearms industry. FSS was targeted for allegedly insufficient secure storage and 2 other FFLS were pursued because they didn’t make ‘sufficient checks’ when selling non-controlled items under the new nuisance law.

If that’s the case, then NJ gun stores are part of the problem.

The AG’s office is running sting operations to entrap gun stores and you think it is the gun store’s fault?

Really?

Asking for a FID card for Hoppes #9 is the gun shops fault for being too paranoid

What is the correct level of paranoia when the old AG, with an unlimited budget, has proven that there is no limit to how far he will stoop to destroy your means of making a living and attempt to throw you in jail?

The bigger guy with the beard….

Asking for an FID for to buy Hoppes gun oil or any other gun accessories, where no such requirement exists? Yes, 100% the gun store(s) are part of the problem. Anyone who thinks this is ok or agrees with this is also part of the problem. This is the mentality that got us here and this is why we will never have our rights restored in this State.
