Will we get full nationwide CCW reciprocity?

Based on the results of the election, and the control of Congress, do you think we will get full reciprocity this time?

If you remember, back in 2017 the Repub House voted and passed (12/6/2017) for nationwide CCW reciprocity based on having a permit. (HR 38, vote 231 - 198).

But, the Repub Senate refused to even take it up for a vote. Trump said last year, he would get it passed if he wins again.

So, do you think it will pass this time?

A major issue of mine. This better be on the agenda this time around.

I think the senate will kill it if it makes it out of the house.

Just like last time.

Weren’t there some significant constitutional and State-rights issues with the previous bills? I forget the details but remember we talked about it on the old site.

I really hope so. This is a big issue for me and my family. Why am I less of an American when I cross state lines? Are we the United States or not?

The problem was cocaine Mitch was afraid to put some Senators on the spot with a floor vote so constituents could see exactly where their Senators stood on the 2A.
He didn’t bring it up for a vote to protect swamp creatures.

That’s the way I see it. Just like driver’s licenses. If you pass or meet the requirements in your state, you should have the same rights in every other state. This state by state different standards is really nuts.

Heck, I think we’re up to 29 states that have constitutional carry. I remember a certain party saying it would be the wild west, with constant gun fights. That never happened…

The only place with constant gun fights is Chicago… you know, the city/state with strict gun laws…

Drivers licenses. Marriage licenses.

Why not LTC?

I pretty much agree with you. A lot of state licenses are reciprocal now, at least to some degree. I cant see why carry permits are excluded. I cant see why a nursing license is good just about everywhere but a carry permit is not.

These are still mostly state by state, along with medical licenses. Some states have agreed to a multistate compact, but the feds are not involved.

Of course being a nurse isn’t a Constitutional right, either.

What’s interesting is, I looked at the reciprocity charts. Many guys years ago got Florida and Utah non-resident LTC. I checked, and those actually get you more state reciprocity than a NJ resident permit does now. And they were a lot easier to get, than the hoops we jump through for the NJ permit.

It’s crazy. I travel around all over the country in my RV, and I never think twice about driving through other states with my NJ driver’s license, or being questioned who that lady is in the passenger seat, but each night I have to review what states I’m going to be in the next day, and understand what my “rights” are in protecting us in the next state.

There are no words…

Architecture and engineering licenses aren’t 100% reciprocal either. It’s all a bullshit game for the money grab.

Question If you had a out of state CC permit would you be covered to CC if reciprocity became nationwide.

IIRC the previous attempt at national CCW reciprocity required that you have a CCW in your state of residence in order to be “covered” nationally under reciprocity.

Not sure if this time around if having a CCW in “any” state, not necessarily your state of residence, will count or not.

I actually think this request is too timid. Driving is a privilege that may be regulated or denied by government; marriage may also be regulated. The Constitution forbids the Federal government, and by extension, the states, the power to infringe the right for individuals to keep and bear arms. What should happen (even though it will not) is either National Constitutional Carry, or a National Permit to Carry.

I’d be very surprised if it happened. Senate RINOs are already showing they are going to be difficult for Trump to work with. Typical R behavior. Finally get all the levers and squander the opportunity… If we get the AWB and Mag Ban tossed along with a solid conservative SCOTUS for another generation I’ll be thrilled.

I suspect it will get kicked around for a bit, but ultimately dropped.

A nice early gesture from Trump to keep the gun supporters in his base happy, but low political risk because he knows it will never pass.

I think what can and should be done is to force the issue to the SCOTUS by having all the red state governors pass and enforce voting laws in their respective states based exactly on the wording of anti-gun blue states gun laws. example: any person interested in the state of ______ must first obtain a ______ state voters permit card which shall be good for two years and costs $. dollars, person must meet all requirements listed in law, submit 4 character references, be 21 years old or older , etc.etc. you know all the rules here. make sure wording of laws mirrors the worst blue state laws exactly and when SCOTUS declares it unconstitutional that these requirements can’t be used to vote ( exercise a right ) then there is no reason the ruling wouldn’t apply to 2A rights. a person who has not been properly vetted to vote is more capable of harming the country and citizens than any arm in my hands.
