Second Amendment Foundation has come into possession of a letter circulating which appears to be from the New Jersey Attorney General’s attorneys, seeking to clarify the scope of the subpoenas the AG’s office has been serving on NJ FFL’s seeking documentation regarding Glock sales in the state.
The broad language of the subpoena itself has raised concerns that the AG’s office is seeking an incredibly problematic swath of firearm purchaser data. While this letter purports to clarify what the AG’s office is actually seeking, a number of concerns remain. SAF is still reviewing and considering all options for a response.
Spaghetti, meet wall.
Nothing quite like spending The People’s money to try to screw The People.
You know the origin of the word “politics”:
From the Greek, “poly” means many.
And “ticks” are blood suckers.
Updates to the original News2a.com article:
May 16, 2026 UPDATE: The Office of the New Jersey Attorney General responded to News2A’s request for comment after the article was published with a statement from a spokesperson. Based on that statement, we have updated some facts in the article, but are awaiting responses on additional clarifying questions.
The AG’s office states:
Subpoenas are not being sent to ALL FFLs, just a subset. We are awaiting a response as to how many and the selection criteria.
A spokesperson stated, “The requests are not seeking information about individual purchasers or any personal identifying information about purchasers.” However, the subpoenas, which we have seen firsthand, do not reflect this. Additionally, the FFLs with which we have spoken, and their attorneys, some of whom we have spoken with, do not interpret the subpoenas this way either.
May 19, 2026 UPDATE: A recent communication from the Office of the Attorney General to News2A confirmed that 15 FFLs in the state received subpoenas, of the roughly 50 total authorized Glock dealers. The criteria for choosing which FFLs were targeted with subpoenas is unknown.
We write concerning the subpoena duces tecum served on you in the above-referenced
action. The Attorney General is not seeking any customer-identifying information, personally
identifiable information, or individual customer records. In particular, the Attorney
General’s Request #1 regarding “all sales” only seeks aggregate information
concerning sales and/or transfers of Glock handguns to New Jersey customers in
whatever form you maintain or can reasonably provide that information. For example, responsive information may be provided in summary or aggregate form,
such as total sales or transfers by year, model, customer/dealer category, or other
similar non-customer-identifying categories. The Attorney General is prepared to work cooperatively and reasonably with you. If
the information is maintained in a particular report, spreadsheet, accounting system,
point-of-sale system, or other business record format, please let us know, and we would
be happy to discuss an efficient approach that limits burden on you while providing the
relevant aggregate information. The Attorney General is also willing to work cooperatively regarding the scope and
form of production in response to any other Request. If you have questions, concerns,
or believe that a particular request would be burdensome as written, please contact the
undersigned:
Still smells of bullshit. “There are 52,491 Glocks in New Jersey Subject’s hands that can be potentially converted into an Assault Machine Destructive Pistol Device and we need them banned now”
NJSP already has this record get it from them.
