Help me pick a new red dot

When I bought my FNX45T it came with a Vortex Viper installed. It an OK sight but the design sucks in my view. First of all, the exposed battery, I know it’s the same as the RMR but I hate that design. But the bigger problem on the vortex is the set screws on the back that are completely covered by the rear sight when installed, making zeroing a major PITA.

So for now, I swapped it for a Vortex Venom I had laying around. I love Vortex optics but their pistol RDS’s are not that great in my opinion, So I need advice for a new optic.

So here are my constraints, the factory FNX45T optics cut only allows for a Docter or RMR mount. Vortex has an adapter for a DPP mount but it would raise the optic too high, eliminating co-witness.

So I need a new optic, RMR mount is probably my only option at this time (i’m not re-milling the slide), no open battery. Robust enough for a SHTF gun but not $500+. I looked at some of the holosuns, but would like opinions on anything else that is out there.

Thanks.

I put Holosun 509T on my shtf Walther. Excellent RD.

You definitely need a plate for mounting and suppressor height irons though.

Is that the CH plate?

The FNX45T comes with suppressor height irons.

Pretty sure it is.

I’ve got a handful of dots and I still keep coming back to the RMR for ruggedness and DPP for a balance of reliability and low-ish price.

Trijicon RMR Type 2 Adjustable - the gold standard of duty quality optics. Besides the bottom mounted battery and relatively small window, it’s amazing in every way. Easy to adjust brightness on the fly and awesome battery life. Just hate that I have to confirm zero once a year after every battery change. Still very valid today for a rugged optic, and there’s currently a $100 rebate on them.

I have the Gideon Omega on my FNX 45t and I couldn’t be happier. Nice big window, so super easy to transition from target to target. I used a plate that came with the pistol to mount the red dot.

Below is just to show the dot better

Yeah, I saw that rebate, it seems like a good detail. But that bottom mounted battery just kills it for me.

Looks like an SRO clone, possible contender if I can get it without the circle of death, I have astigmatism.

Anyone have experience with the 407C X3?

Yeah, they come in both a dot and circle dot. If you go for it, get the green version I have an astigmatism as well and it really helps. I upgraded the red one into the green one a bit ago. The red one now sits on my shotgun.

I originally had the 407C on mine it’s a good dot it just felt a little small for such a big gun so that’s why I changed to the SRO clone I like the bigger window

For some reason I don’t like the way that closed emitter optics look. Just me I guess.

I was considering the RMR HD for about 2 min, until I saw the price. But honestly the 407C X3, the new one, looks really promising, and at under $250.

Ah yes this is where I am now as I wait for my 2011 to be in my hands as I wait for the Great MisState of NJ to let me get my GD permit.

I was thinking get one of the budget ones ie: Gideon Omega or Osight C, or go for the 507 Comp. Personally I like the circle it & dot as it seems to fit my eyes.

I want the big window so these are 3 I’m looking at.. I’m torn right now, I just know I need an RMR footprint for the plate for my 2011.

Someone convince me lol

The one thing i’m worried about, in terms of a large window, is that I want to have the same, or similar, size window on all my pistols, just so that I don’t get used to a large window on one gun just to be un-proficient (not sure if that’s a word) with the optic on my carry pistol, which will most likely be a CC9 or VP9CC, eventually.

I could of course be way off here; I just don’t have enough experience with pistol optics to be able to tell if that will be a problem.

I have 3 optics 2 are on in use: I have a holosun 407k=x2 on my carry SS 365 x-macro and I have the Holosun EPS Carry Green on my Springfield Echelon (bed side safe). Love them both and easy transition between the 2. When I was using my bil’s 507 comp and went back to my smaller optics it was no big deal. Frankly the comp or bigger window is more for that comb style of shooting

How much are the FNX‘s going for nowadays? When I bought mine almost 2 years ago, I got the five magazine bundle version for around 999 and FN was doing a rebate of $125. So like 875 all in.

$1,300 with the viper in 2022

@High_Exposure is getting rid of one.

I had the 507 Comp on my 2K11. Pulled it off and went back to the 507C. Don’t really care for the huge window. Trying to keep all my optics close to the same size.
