Handguns You Just Can't Shoot

What makes a HG “shootable”?

Over the decades I’ve shot probably 25 - 30 different handguns, and learned something important, I suck at shooting handguns. There is one exception though, my friend’s CZ Shadow 2. For whatever reason, this guy, who can’t hit the broad side of a barn from inside the barn, can shoot the snot out of that Shadow 2.

So obviously there is some kind of magic that makes a HG more or less shootable for any particular person. It’s not like everyone on the planet can shoot well a 1911 or a Glock 19 or a Beretta 98/M9. There is no one size fits all gun.

So what are some of the HGs that you wanted to love but it didn’t work out (It’s not you, It’s me), and the opposite, handguns you hated but can shoot lights out.

Colt 1911 Gold Cup Trophy .45

In my hand, I’m lucky to empty a mag inside a 6” circle at 7 yards, hand it to anyone else, including my wife and they can empty a mag into a quarter size hole.

I also don’t shoot any pistol well with a pronounced curved trigger, best example is my Beretta 92 gts, getting better though with that one.

I had always wanted an HK USP compact. Bought one in .40 several years ago.

I really wanted to love it, but I couldn’t shoot it for shit.
Never felt right in my hand.

Sold it to a member here.

Sig P238. I sold it.
The most uncomfortable one to shoot was my Glock 43. I sold that one too. I now a have a rule. I won’t buy any gun until I can shoot it first. I was in Florida and I really wanted a Springfield Hellcat. I rented one and just for the heck of it I rented a Sig P365 and shot them side by side. I walked out with the P365.

Sig P238 for me as well! Also got a P365XL which replaced the P238 as my carry gun.

Not a fan of my USPc either. Its sitting in the safe in Florida. I have the 9mm. Great quality gun, but It has a Glock like feel in my hand. I really like the VP9sk and P30sk. The both feel like they were custom made for my hand. Very enjoyable to shoot.

Any Glock

I have to admit of my 20 hand guns my CZ 75D feels and shoots the best. It just feels like they formed the grip to my hand and it aims and shoots itself. second to that is my Berretta 92FS. But the CZ wins every time. It’s my night stand gun.

Umm, believe the thread is, handguns you you don’t shoot well. :winking_face_with_tongue:

I don’t get on well with the big Glocks. The double stack ones chambered in .45ACP and 10mm. The grip is just too big and blocky.

I’m playing off of that.

Years ago I was set on getting the smallest pistols I could for ccw and wound up buying an MPA 380 micro pistol. I was so excited when it showed up and a few weeks later made it to the range. Holy shit was that thing PAINFUL to shoot, and I couldn’t hit a damn thing with it. Probably the quickest flip on any gun I’ve ever owned.
