That is a JM stamped Marlin 336 in department store furniture. Helluva good lever gun and a great deal for anyone wanting a JM stamped marlin.

BUMP! Taking offers

Still up!

I can’t believe no one wants this. Gun Broker has a clapped out pitted barrel and lever with a bid over 400, this is mint compared to the trash you see online. 550 is a great deal.

I have the same exact rifle. It’s a good shooter. I like to bring it to the range once in a while for nostalgia purposes and let others take a few shots. They really enjoy it. Just something about a lever action.:cowboy_hat_face:And believe it or not, quite a few guys still use this type of rifle for deer hunting. Good luck on a sale :+1:

Curious, what does JM stamped mean?

John Marlin

Of course🤦‍♂️

In the Marlin owner community, we refer to it as “Jeniune Marlin”. JM stamped guns, even the store brands, command a premium because they are genuine Marlins. The 30A is just a store brand Marlin 336 with different furniture, usually a less costly hardwood like maple or birch, and pressed checkering instead of cut.

Fundamentally, the 336 and 30A are mechanically identical.

Let me just say that I have hunted with a Marlin 336 since I got my hunting license. They are the absolute best rifles for deer hunting on the East Coast. I hunt in Pennsylvania, where hunting with a semi auto is prohibited. The Marlin is short, fast, accurate, and easy to carry. For deer hunting around here, this is the tool. And they’re fun to shoot!
