Local shop here has a couple springfield trapdoors in the 1884 variation. Recently gave me the bug for something like that in the 45-70 flavor. Open to various options including lever but not interested in break barrels. Really like a trapdoor carbine, repro is fine. A sharps of some sort is probably out of the budget. Just like a shooter.
Live in Hammonton and work in Mickleton for FFL transfer area ideas.
If you go the levergun rout, stay away from the early “Remlins” (Remington made Marlins) A JM stamped Marlin 1895, A late Remlin (last two years) or a “Ruglin” Ruger made Marlin are all good.
Ruger actually did a great job with the brand.

I have a repro H&R trapdoor in .45-70. I also have a Pedersoli 1874 Sharps in .45-70. The trapdoor gives a painful kick if you don’t seat it properly to your shoulder. The Sharps recoil is not as bad because the gun weighs 14 lbs. I enjoy shooting both of them. Ammo is expensive but I reload my own.
