When is enough, enough?

I don’t think I’ll ever stop hankering for something new or improved, or just a bit better for the intended purpose.

I guess the day will eventually come when I buy my last gun, but I don’t know when that will be and I don’t think I’ll know when it happens either.

Currently, I’m looking at what I want to use for GPA. I have IDPA and USPSA specific guns, but GPA has a different rule set.

For IDPA I have a pair of CZ SP-01 Shadows. One is set up with a Cajun DA/SA trigger and an RDS, and the other has a Cajun SAO trigger and iron sights. With these I can swap the slides so I effectively have 4 configurations.

DA/SA with optic - IDPA CO, USPSA CO
SAO with iron sights - IDPA ESP
DA/SA with iron sights - IDPA SSP, USPSA Limited minor, USPSA Production
SAO with optic - IDPA CO, USPSA LO

I also have a DA/SA Shadow 2 with an RDS which was built for USPSA CO, but can also run in LO, which is way too heavy for any IDPA division but would be fine in GPA.

GPA has no weight limits, so I’m thinking of another Shadow 2 with a SAO trigger to replicate the options I have with the SP-01 Shadow to cover FSI and FSO divisions and will also give me a better USPSA limited and LO gun. The SP-01s would be backups in case of a failure during a match. The alternative is to get a 9mm 2011 style gun which will be much more spendy, especially factoring in mags and then wanting a spare for major matches. I already have plenty of CZ mags that work in both the SP-01 and Shadow 2. A third option would be a DWX, but that is almost as spendy as a 2011 and takes different CZ mags than the ones I have already.

So even though I told myself “No new calibers”, I have a serious want for a S&W Bodyguard 2.0 in .380. I’ll probably scratch that itch in the next month or so, and that will open up another whole world of compact handguns that I don’t actually need, but are really cool and easily concealable. And I actually will train with all of them. I only wish that .380 was as cheap as 9mm.

I think a few of us went down the rabbit hole, the .380 ammo pricing is close enough to 9mm for me.

Evidently I have not reached enough.

Have a Bodyguard 2.0 waiting in the wings for a backround check.

Also have a CZ Shadow 2 compact waiting in the wings for a backround check.

And after days of deliberation on a watch, I finally went with,

Redeye. Can’t go wrong with Omega. Have a Planet Ocean and James Bond GMT. Dropped my TAG Aquaracer the other day and now it does stop and go. Off to the repair shop.

The Python is a beauty. Here’s my latest 1911-X Carry

With retirement not to far off I was looking for an everyday driver, the speedmaster checked all the boxes, for one it is a looker, the weight doesn’t feel like a brick on your wrist and last, it doesn’t break the bank, one surprise was the band, they narrowed it a few mm and it just sits so nice. Once retired watches will be few and far between. Enjoy that sweet pistol!

I haven’t got there yet.

I ordered a Staccato HD P4.5 this morning which will be here in a month or 2.

Then I got a reminder that I was watching a S&W Model 41 on Gunbroker this afternoon. I paid a little more than I was hoping, but still a good deal on a new old stock at about 2/3 the normal retail price.

I just need my permits to hurry up now.

Great choice with the SW41
I’ve had mine since 1977 and paid a whopping $272 from Leslie Edelman (Airport Circle - Pennsauken)
(Wish I had bought multiples!!)
With the 41, when you miss the 10 ring, it’s not the gun - it’s operator error

I had one back in the UK. The government took it when they confiscated all the legally owned handguns and melted them down.

They are accurate, for sure.
