What's legal and illegal after the new ruling?

I know that the threads were merged, but I’m a bit unfamiliar with some of the specifics of the ban. I was just wondering, in plain text, what specifically is now unbanned, and what remains banned?

I understand that folding/telescoping stocks, flash hiders and threaded muzzles, and the ban by name list is overall lifted specifically for rifles. I know suppressors are a separate issue altogether, what about SBRs? What else are we able to have, and what remains illegal?

Nothing yet because everyone is scared to death of NJ. Pathetic.

I mean.. If we buy 30rd mags, wouldn’t we grandfather in like California did a few years ago even if they somehow get around the ruling?

From what I’ve read and put together, you should see in the next couple of weeks:

  1. So called ‘assault weapons’ that were banned by name will be gone.

  2. Evil features will be gone.

  3. Mag limits will be gone.

Handgun and shotgun regs will change as well, but I think that may take a bit longer to sort out.

The lawsuit before the 3rd circuit pertained specifically to the NJ assault weapons statute and magazine ban statute. So the ban list and feature list will be no more once the ruling goes into effect. But there are a bunch of firearms that are banned by their own statute and not by the assault weapon statute for instance, SBRs, silencers, all still banned. Also, ruling only applies to rifles, currently, but they remanded back to the district Court to rule on shotguns and pistols. I’m a little fuzzy on what happens there. I think the plaintiffs get another shot at establishing that the banned shotguns and and pistols are also in common use.

All semi auto rifles will be legal as per Federal standards. Same as magazine capacities. There will be no more list of banned guns. There will be no more “Evil features”.

Semi Auto Shotguns and Semi Auto Pistols have been remanded back down to district court. So no AR Pistols yet (except what’s currently legal).

Not covered: Suppressors, SBRs, Hollow Points, .50 Cals.

This has not legally taken effect yet - NJ has a week to ask for a stay, and it will take a couple days for the district court to issue the actual orders and more time for AG/NJSP to comply…

Thanks for all the replies guys, I picked up a few 25rd .308 mags, I don’t have a 5.56 rifle at this time haha. Do I need to keep the receipt to show I got it during this lull incase some tomfoolery happens?

They are probably setup to be drop shipped from a distributor. The distributor isn’t going to ship them to a individual until they are legally certain they can.

You’d be surprised how many standard cap magazines are in the hands of FFLs and gun shops right now. Crates/Boxes full.

That’s why I haven’t taken my stock and barrel to my gun shop to get it unpinned and whatnot, waiting for something concrete, but I did stock up on mags hahah
