Great article from the guy who’s considered a wizard when planning ahead. EJ Snyder is called the extreme survivalist, yet he approaches the concept with common sense ideas. One thing I noticed is how he addressed the FEMA and Emergency Management’s suggestion to have 3 days of food and water stored for emergencies:
The Epoch Times: How long should people be prepared to ride out an emergency?
Mr. Snyder: Seventy-two hours isn’t going to do squat! You should stock three meals per day for each person in your family, plus snacks and one gallon of water per day per person—enough to last for 90 days. Then, add enough for another person who might knock at your door.
Mr Snyder is a moron or has a vested interest in selling prepper gear and food. 72 hrs, or three days supply is the magic number. Study after study has shown that if one can survive the first 72 hours of a catastrophic event, the chances of long term survival increase exponentially.
Now, this isn’t to say a three day supply is ALL one needs. Of course, there will be needs beyond that, but what are the logistics of storing, and moving 90 days of supplies.
If u r bugging in, logistics are not a major problem, bugging out is far more complicated. Oh, and extra supplies for a +1 is stupid. Once people find out you have food and water, when they don’t, its gonna get all Twilight Zone up in dat bitch.
LOL… I knew you’d be the first one to reply to this post…
People who have paid attention, don’t need his advice. But the sheep who get fed their daily dose of propaganda on their Smart phones (which actually make them dumber) might learn something from it.
Regarding the 3 day advice, most people don’t have 3 days of regular food in their houses, which is why there’s ALWAYS a big run on the grocery store just before a hurricane. Getting the sheep to plan ahead will never go mainstream in this country, as most just think FEMA will come to the rescue… Just ask the people of NC how well that worked out.
I also think planning for a few extra mouths to show up isn’t bad strategy, as you can count on other family members to show up at your house if they knew you had “extras”. Heck, I have family members saying they’re coming here in the case of a Civil War because they know I have a way to defend this place.
And regarding his interest in selling prepper gear, go back to what I said above. First the sheep need to be spoon fed information, then they need a direct link to be told where to buy it. If he makes a few bucks selling his knowledge and products, good for him. Basically all bloggers today are trying to make a buck off their postings. After all, we’re a capitalist society, right?
I just took an Urban Defense class at CSAT in Texas with Paul Howe. He felt bugging in for 72 hours at the beginning of an event is a good idea. I guess the situation will dictate.
He did emphasize the importance of getting your neighbors together before the SHTF. Find out who has what skill, doctor, nurse, construction, etc. You may as a group have to take control of your block. Definitely a bunch to think about.
