What NOT to do with a muzzleloader!

Not just a CVA, but any muzzleloading gun, including rifles, shotguns, handguns, and revolvers
Watch it, learn it, live it !

The easiest dangerous mistake to make is the projectile in the barrel not being fully seated
Black powder must be compressed by the projectile on top of it, NO gaps !
After a few shots a carbon (gunk) ring builds up way down in the barrel. When you go to seat a ball on the powder you can hit that ring and think you’re fully compressed against the powder - you’re not ! It can be quite a distance away. You’ve just made a pipe bomb.

To avoid this, make a mark on your ramrod and check it when you’ve fully seated the projectile to be sure it’s all the way down on top of the powder

This !

Black powder is an explosive, NOT a propellant.

Never load from a horn or flask…

Been loading 45-70 for a trapdoor…405grn hits hard at 100…!

But when loading, listen for the crunch

Good stuff…until you shoot BP - flint, cap, pistols rifle or shotguns…u dont know how much fun it is till you do it!

My flint rifle, possibles bag, hawk, knife and war club are in the corner…you might need to be at the green at a minutes notice. :grinning:
