Welcome to New Jersey, Virginia.

More like welcome to Commifornia.
From the bill:
As with all such bills, Virginia has its own definition of “assault firearms,” which is so broad as to effectively encompass nearly all modern rifles that have these popular design or cosmetic features. The bill’s formal definition for “assault rifles” is:

A semi-automatic center-fire rifle that expels single or multiple projectiles by action of an explosion of a combustible material that has the ability to accept a detachable magazine and has ONE of the following characteristics:

(i) a folding, telescoping, or collapsible stock; (ii) a pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the rifle; (iii) a second handgrip or a protruding grip that can be held by the non-trigger hand; (iv) a grenade launcher; (v) a flare launcher; (vi) a sound suppressor; (vii) a flash suppressor; (viii) a muzzle brake; (ix) a muzzle compensator; (x) a threaded barrel capable of accepting (a) a sound suppressor, (b) a flash suppressor, (c) a muzzle brake, or (d) a muzzle compensator; or (xi) any characteristic of like kind as enumerated in clauses (i) through (x);

So welcome the"fishtail grip" and the non-removeable magazines.

Thomas Jefferson is burning with anger in his grave!

So they want to ban anything that is not a handgun.

Federal definition of a handgun is:

18 U.S. Code § 921 - Definitions

(a)As used in this chapter—
(30)The term handgun means—

(A) a firearm which has a short stock and is designed to be held and fired by the use of a single hand; and

(B) any combination of parts from which a firearm described in subparagraph (A) can be assembled.

Funny that
But even the FBI stats claim that handguns are involved in multiple more shootings and homicides, compared to long guns.

Liberal Logic.

FBI Data, which all these politicians have access to. Look where rifles are on the chart
but sure, “Assault Weapons” (which is an even smaller number in the Rifles category) is the issue

Well, the bill passed, and it’s on it’s way to the communist new governor, to sign:

Bill Banning Popular Semiautomatic Rifles, High Cap Mags, Clears Virginia Legislature

A bill banning AR-15s and other popular semiautomatic rifles, as well as magazines holding more than 15 rounds of ammunition, cleared the Virginia legislature Monday and is headed to Gov. Abigail Spanberger’s (D) desk.

The legislation, SB 749, states that “importing, selling, purchasing, or transferring a prohibited firearm would be a Class 1 misdemeanor,” Ammoland News noted.

It also “restricts the sale or transfer of certain large-capacity magazines defined in the statute.”

WRIC reported that SB 749 also bans a number of semiautomatic shotguns and certain semiautomatic, centerfire pistols.

FYI - Just because Spanberger hasn’t signed it yet doesn’t mean it can’t become law:

Virginia elected a “moderate’ Democratic governor, to go with the Dem’s narrow majorities in both houses of their legislature, and they have quickly gone full libtard.

I fear for our entire nation the next time the Dems control the White House and both branches of Congress. And don’t count on SCOTUS to save us, as the Dems have already announced their plans to expand the court to give them a permanent majority. Once they grant amnesty to the 30 million or so illegals here, it’s all over for the rest of us.

How’s that for gloom and doom?

I don’t think the bill should be allowed to go into law, if the governor does nothing. I think the governor needs to be put on record for what gets signed into law, and actually sign the bill.

If she has future political aspirations, like running for President, she won’t be guilty of signing any legislation. Letting it silently slip into law may benefit her, and nobody can blame her for being un-American come a national election.

BTW - their neighbor Maryland is pushing to ban lead ammunition for hunting ALL species. Supposed to start in 2027, cover all species of small and big game by 2029. You can guess where that is headed.

Yes but rifles are scary looking and emotionally they can’t handle that.. the Dems have gone so far left, it’s absolutely absurd!
