Seen someone at range who had double feed issue, slide wouldn’t go all the way into battery, and they kept tap racking with no prevail.Instead he kept tap racking, until the mag had 2rounds left. So I kindly told him to drop mag, then clear, and what do you know, he was finally able to run the rest of ammo in mag.what was crazy when he had double feed issues ,he said he knows how to fix issue of double feed ,and tap racked out almost his whole mag.my question is, are you a tap racked person person, or drop mag and clear @ range?
My training and experience: “Click no bang” and a double-feed present differently. Some pistols might be different on a double-feed, either dead trigger or stuck trigger. Either way, I was taught on a double-feed to first drop the mag (usually needs to be done forearm to a raised knee to get it out), then rack slide several times, insert new mag, rack, and back in the fight. Otherwise for CNB use the good old Tap-Rack-Bang. Good stuff to practice with dummy rounds at home! For extra bonus, do single-handed with both strong and support hand.
I was taught to drop the mag, help it out if it needs persuasion. Once the mag is out, if the problem didn’t clear on its own, finger bang the magwel until the rounds unbind and drop out. If that does not work, mortar.
Tap rack will never fix a double feed. You have to lock the slide back, rip out the mag which most times has the partially fed round stuck on the front of the feed lips so you really do need to rip it, rack out the round and then load the gun from empty.
Tap rack is the action to take on a click, no bang.
Need to apply proper fix to proper symptom.
If the gun goes click and not bang, tap rack should fix. Most likely a failure to feed or a bad round.
If the gun doesn’t go into battery, verify that it’s a double feed. Then remove mag, alleviate the issue, and insert good magazine.
Tap and rack for initial response. If it no workie the mag is coming out for the next round of remediation.
