I picked up a Rem 1100 to use as a dedicated slug gun.
The previous owner had gone hunting and cased it wet for a long time so there’s some finish loss along one side of the receiver and on the barrel.
I’ve stripped and cold blued it and it looks OK but not great.
About what would it cost in the central NJ area (Savage Arms in Spotswood?) to have it Cerakoted?
Or should I Duracoat it myself ? Is it as easy as it seems ?
Painting always looks easy… the application is NOT.
Guns have so much oil that flashing every part in an oven and soaking in acetone is pretty much a must do first step to prepping. It took me 3 flash and acetone cycles to get all the oil out of a dust covet.
Duracoat is good if you can do all the prep and paint without over/under spraying.
If you dont want the hassle, then cerakote is a much better option.
Cerakote also has a paint that will air dry now, which is on par with Duracoat.
