Got my email with the annual Black Friday Gun Auction over at Sunrise Antiques in Chesterfield. I’ve picked up a few items over the years from some of their auctions. If anyone is interested I’ve posted the link below.
Black Friday Auction
Don’t really need anything but if the price is right, I may bite. I’ve bought a couple things from their auctions before. Pondering taking the trip down..
I you’re thinking about bidding on a larger ticket item, you MUST, repeat MUST go and inspect it before bidding.
I watched a frankenstein Parker shotgun go for full matching parts price (a thousand more than it should have) to an online bidder who only went by the photos. I can’t imagine he was very happy.
I would have bid on a flintlock with a badly pitted barrel if I had only seen it online, fortunately I was there for the preview and dropped a bore light down.
That being said it’s the best gun auction I know of within driving distance
Also, very often those boxes of primers and stuff are less than half full, again, without previewing, you’d never know.
Totally agree with you on putting on eyes and hands on these things before you throw down money on this. Sometimes the pictures look nothing like what they are in person. I’ve walked out there empty handed more times than I’ve won. Even the auctioneer seems surprised people just go entirely by the online pictures, especially the new people.
Thank you for this information. They have some very interesting items for auction.
