Smith and Wesson 1854 Lever

Picked up the stainless 44mag version, going to be this year’s deer rifle. Action is smooth, feeds flawlessly, have run 44mag and 44 special, no issue with either, the peep sight is fully adjustable, elevation and windage, very nice setup. Went with a leupold 1-4 scope for hunting, my old eyes have a hard time with 100 yard shots these day. Going to use Federal Hammer down JSP for hunting, that sure is a thumper of a round.

Nice! I am wanting to pick up a lever action some day.

Don’t wait, pick up a Rossi 92, for the price, it’s a great little rifle.

I have had a Rossi .357/38 lever since 1980, fired maybe 10 rounds. It’s a well made and gorgeous rifle!

Purchased a very gently pre-owned JM Stamped Marlin 30-30 in 2016.

Lever actions are classic and fun. Kind of similar to a manual transmission in a car, you feel more “engaged” with the rifle.

I would like to get a 2nd one in 357 Magnum to compliment my revolver.

Don’t underestimate the fun a Henry in .22lr can be, Rossi in .357 is cheap, accurate and a ton of fun at the range, the addition of a peep sight was a game changer for me.

I have a couple Henry’s in .22 and .22 mag and can confirm they are fun. Something in .357 is on the wish list.

Most of my rifle shoot’n is .223 and .308 off the bench cuz im addicted to tiny groups, but there is no rifle more fun to shoot offhand than my .22 lever action Marlin 39D.

looked at Henry’s basic 22lr lever gun and it was too light for me, felt more like an air rifle.

Now, about that 1854. When can we expect a range report with some shot up targets… Do u have no concept of gun porn?

I’ll bring the 1854 on the 3rd, you can check it out in person. :sunglasses:
Bring some ammo, think I’m down to my hunting rounds, may have a box buried in the back of the safe.

Went with the Henry, small game rifle with skinner peep sight, buckhorn sights and my eyes don’t mix.

Could put a scope on

Low power vintage scopes are all the rage with old leverguns now… Especially leupold VX series, but redfield and weaver are popular too. its all the guys that bough and hunted JM marlins for the past 30-50 years and now have poor eyesight. And if u can believe it many old school hunters have adopted LPVO because its perfect for their inside 150 yards hunting and no desire for magnifcation.

On both my hunting levers, .44mag and 30-30 have leupold VX Freedom 1.5-4 scopes, the .22lr is just a range toy and still enjoy the peep sight, toyed with keeping the .44mag stock and use the peep sight this year but, didn’t want to take a bad shot or miss completely if I had to take a 75-100 yard shot.

I just picked up a Taylors/Chiappa .44 mag. I got it because it breaks down for easy travel. Skinner Sights makes a nice folding case for it. The only thing I don’t like is no sling swivels. I will just get a scabbard for it.

Dunno if I’d want to sling a TD rifle. Seems like it might stress where the two parts join.

You mean like this one on my old Rossi .357?

My wife bought me a Rosssi R92 in 357 for Christmas 2 years ago and I love it. My only complaint is that the loading gate could be a little smoother, other than that it’s a great rifle

Field strip it, bend the spring a little and it softens up, while it’s out, sand down the opening for the loading gate, you won’t rip up your fingers. If you bought the the 16 inch model, pull the tube spring and clip it leaving 4 inches while not under pressure sticking out, makes loading much easier. They use the same spring in the 16 inch barrel as they do in the 20 inch barrel.

My Marlin in .30-30. Best deer gun for east coast hunting.
