I’m looking for recommendations for a reputable shotgun fitter in the central NJ area to help with a “fitting” session and the installation of an adjustable comb. I know about Griffin & Howe but would like to see if there are other options available.
Does anyone have any suggestions other than Griffin & Howe?
Welcome to the forum. Maybe call some of the clay clubs in the state for direction.
Thanks. I was just hoping that I could get some recommendations here but seems like calling a club or two for suggestions is my next stop
Griffin & Howe do seem to be the real deal on this type of request. I just bought an O/U that has an adjustable recoil pad and comb. After adjusting the pad lower on my shoulder for a better fit ,it raised the gun higher to my line of sight so, no need for a raised comb. I’m not a fitting expert but, youtube.com is your friend.
G&H do seem to be the most referenced fitter online but I’ll reach out to some clubs to see if there are other options for getting an adjustable comb added. If not, it’s either G&H or last resort, shipping to Cole’s or Graco for the work. I’ve got an adjustable comb on my main trap gun, this one is a 20 gauge without an adjustable comb that I picked up for skeet. I need another smidge of height and and a tiny bit of cast to get my eyes where I want them on the rib
Gotcha ![]()
I’m pretty sure you have to be there for a shotgun to be fitted to you.
true - for an actual fitting you need to be there to get it done. However, to get just the adjustable comb hardware installed, you can just give the buttstock to them.
Have you looked at Beartooth’s comb riser kit. It was recommended to me by Gene Solomon as a quick easy nondestructive accessory to experiment with riser height. have been using t for about eight years now. It isn’t expensive, it does not look fancy, but it works. The kit comes with several shims for you to experiment with. Might be worth checking out until you work out a “permanent” solution.
That may not be a bad idea as a temporary solution
