Rem 1100 problem

For some strange reason, the firing pin no longer strikes the primer.
Pin is fine, I replaced both springs made no difference
Hammer is snapping up fine
Not a dent on a bit of foil I taped over the primer hole on an empty shell
WTH ??!!

My guess if the hammer is fine and no strike at all, something is up with the bolt or not fully in battery.

You’re certain the firing pin is fine and hasn’t subtly broken so it’s under designed length?

Built up gunk in the firing pin channel?

Firing pin is perfect and meets specs
This gun is spotless. I have a set of brushes that are used to clean painting air guns, I ran one through the firing pin channel.

I ordered a new breech bolt buffer on the longshot that it’s the problem (I doubt it but it is a wear piece that I’ve never replaced and I have been shooting it for 35 years)

So the full story here - A few weeks ago I replaced the extractor, old one was completely worn out. Took it to the range, it shot fine
I took it to Lehigh sporting clays 2 weeks ago and started having cycling issues. It’s a magnum barrel, one gas port not two, so I figured it was the light loads they were making us shoot. It was a charity event, they supplied the ammo.
Just in case it was something else, I popped off the barrel, slid out the slide bar/bolt assembly and to make sure the feed latch hadn’t come loose inside (a common problem, they’re only staked in) it was all fine.
Put a new O-ring on just because it was open and why not (I always keep spares in the gun bag).
That was it, no longer hits the firing pin.

I’ve had it completely apart n back together a dozen times now - this is blowing my mind

It’s gotta be something really stupid and easy and I just can’t see it.

I’m leaning towards this as well, but I’m not sure how or why.
Sure looks fully closed and locked.
It’s missing by the tiniest bit, I did have a possible super light touch on the foil (maybe), so we’re talking less than a 64th of an inch problem if this is the cause

The bolt is not going fully into battery. remove the trigger group and observe if the bolt is going fully forward. If there is even the tiniest gap between the bolt face and chamber, no bangey. Also, if the O-rings are generic (not rem or Viton) they may be too fat and causing drag.

Done, a bunch of times
Yup, Rem rings

Digging around I just found this, already ordered the part last night so maybe ??

there is a plastic grommet in the bolt that surrounds the firing pin. This grommet " mashes out " toward the front of the bolt face over time, and eventually will cause misfires, or light primer strikes. I have had to disassemble the bolt in the field before and shave this grommet with a pocket knife to get the gun firing again. I ultimately replaced it and resolved the problem. Anyhow this problem will not cause your gun to not lock up, it will just cause light primer strikes.

I really think this is going to be the bolt buffer (effin BETTER be, or I’ll be losing my sh##!)
I’ll report back on this thread in a few days when the new part comes in and I swap it out

Yup, fixed
The plastic buffer was a little squished into the middle keeping the pin from coming all the way out.
Cheap easy fix
After 35 year it was time to swap out the springs, so no loss there.
Gun is like new

FYI, the new part does not come with the hole for the set pin, something I didn’t expect. No big deal at all to drill it out.
