Been reloading fer long time. Started cuz I wanted to save money.
Long past that Its a great hobby for me.
I make quality safe accurate ammo.
I have mostly Lee equipment. Their Turret Press is a great great press, many various set up can be used.
Loading 40 cal now on my Lee Loadmaster.
I Resize with Redding die using Lee APP press. I prime with Lee auto bench prime.
Loadmaster setup is - flare case drop powder - Hornady Powder cop - Inline fabrications bullet feed - bullet seat - Lee Crimp.
Its a great hobby allowing you to hone in on the most accurate load for your weapon.
The Lee Auto Bench Prime is a fantastic piece of equipment. So much better than on press priming. you can actually feel the primer seat, and you don’t get that tactile feedback priming on a press.
I also use the Lee progressive, it’s a great press! I just don’t trust the powder drop. I do that offline and look in every case to ensure equal powder charges.
I’ve been reloading over 20 years. Started on a lee turret and moved to a lock-n-load AP after about a year. The LNL is closing in on 200k rounds loaded.
I’ve been loading with the servicios aventuras SPP for the last year (about). They are excellent. I have no issues setting them off with anything I own (note, I do not own a revolver with an absurd trigger job).
RCBS, Lyman, Lee, Hornady, and Dillion - I’ve yet to find the powder measure that’s 100% trustable
Maybe the expensive precision ones with the scale built in. But they are super expensive.
I’m okay with a little variability in drops, using a small dipper or trickier to make adjustments on precision loads and okay with a grain or two +/- on trap loads.
Double drops are almost always user error, either not paying attention or not maintaining their equipment.
Sudsy, I do have some 44mag Dies and components. DM me for more info.
I’ve been reloading for about 8years now and still learning. Started with pistol and progressed into rifle and now reloading 20ga, mostly slugs to feed the savage 220. Started casting bullets about 4 years ago when I lucked out on an estate sale find. Picked up a ton of shit from new brass ,factory bullets, bullet molds, dies, powder, primers, lube sizers, sizing dies and a Hollywood Press with 20 and 12ga dies and adapters to accept standard reloading dies. Currently I have the ability to cast for and reload all the calibers that I shoot,
Im running lee, rcbs and hollywood presses.
As I may have said before, I use the Lee Auto drum for exact charges using Win 231 and get perfect results…no variation at all. I cannot use the Autodrum for any other powder in my experience. I use the Lee Auto Disc for AutoComp, N340, Longshot, and Tac getting perfect results. I am a stickler with powder weights and these shown are repeatable for sure. I have proven it to myself multiple times and I am amazed each time I get perfect results.
So far I’ve only used my Auto Disc for CFE-223, and it was dead on at least 80% of the time, with only a 1gr +/- spread the remaining 20%. On a lark I tried to see how High Skor 700X metered through the Auto Disc and it was terrible. On the Grabber, 700x meters +/- 2gr with a 50% probability it will be 16gr. On the Auto Disc, it was off by 5gr or more, usually short.
It seems some measures work better than others for certain powder types, or just specific powders. I’ve read several stories about how powder measure XYZ was great for powder ABC but terrible for DEF. Have not looked into why.
It certainly does have alot to do with the powder. I am mostly using Ball powders as they seem to work alot better all around
I’ve been sitting on one of these, with the adjustable measure, for quite a while. Maybe I should try using it.
My main powders are Red Dot, IMR 4895, Unique, Bullseye, Alliant 2400, Power Pistol
Anything here I should or shouldn’t bother with using the Lee ?
The adjustable measure you speak of has given me nothing but headaches. I could not get a single charge worth a shit out of that thing. As far as the autodisc, you have to try each powder to determine if it works.
Any one load 20ga slugs
-
bullet Dimensions: .450" x 1.105" (258 grains)
-
Sabot Dimensions: .630" x 1.140" (36 grains)
-
Total Weight (bullet + sabot): 294 grains
-
Quantity: 100 slugs $69/per 100
Thats why I use the Hornady powder cop after powder drop.
I use the Lee autodrum powder dispenser. As accurate as any other powder drops.
for my Rifle loading I use the RCBS charge master. Beats out my RCBS M500 mechanical scale when loading one at a time. just easier, exact drops every time.
My experience with the stick powders or flakes is they easily bridge while dropping through drop tube so you get one right one light then one heavy so on so forth.
The only power measure that I use for stick powders or flakes is the RCBS charge master. Its either that or mechanical scale.
