So, I was messing around with a reflex red dot I mounted on my AR. It’s pretty cool how the POA does not shift much or at all when you move your head. But I got to wondering if distance to eye made a difference. It does.
You get a wider FOV the closer it is. I dunno f it works the same with prismatic or tube red dots, but that’s how it works with a reflex type. I liked the wider FOV better because the size of the dot itself didn’t change much whether t was as close as possible, or as far as possible, and, it was a wider FOV.
My newly discovered wide FOV love didn’t last long, it is a tradeoff because it blocks more from your peripheral vision.
So now I’m messing wth how close to my eye I will mount this optic. Tupically I mount red dots as far forward as I can. Maybe that’s not the best way .
What do you think. How do you mount your red dots?
