On a boys weekend at the ranch, doing a little hog hunting when this guy appeared at the barn.
Inside the compound, I kill them. Outside, I let them be.
About 2’ long.

I remember being stationed at FT.Hood Texas and in the field for a week or so. A sizeable rattler was hanging around the garbage can filled with empty milk cartons. A buddy of mine chopped it’s head off with a entrenching tool. When he did, it spat right into another guy’s open mouth about ten feet away. It was all in slow motion. ![]()
And no, he didn’t die but, he was running around saying so.![]()
How did the hog hunt go?
I hear, they taste just like chicken… ![]()
Thursday, I had 10-12 pigs at a feeder. My hunting partner and I shot, but apparently did not connect.
It appears the hogs went nocturnal, so NODS and thermal are in play now.
Fried rattlesnake tastes like fried frogs legs.
My buddy wanted to cut the rattle off as a souvenir.
Rest of the snake is in the fire pit.
What caliper you using? Hogs are tough SOBs from what I’ve seen in videos.
Can you eat those? I’ve heard they can be infested with worms & parasites??
We were shooting suppressed .300BLK. Normally I use 5.56, with no issues. Shot placement is the key.
Hogs under 80lbs or so are ok to eat. Piglets especially are good.
Bigger are full of parasites and stink, so we leave them where we shoot them.
