This was the first time I have shot trap at MCRPC. Good group of guys. It cost $6/round and paid a $5 guest fee. The trap field is in name only as trees block the line of fire to the left. You can see the trap machine, so you can call pull and predict the direction of the target. Lastly, the field crosses the rifle range. They really shoehorned the trap field into the property. The whole thing seemed cramped and the close up treeline makes the background busy and harder to focus on the target.
I shot two rounds and dd terrible, 15 and 17. I might have done better if I had changed chokes. It’s been a while since I shot “regulation” trap and had M and IM chokes instead of full and extra full. But If I’m being honest, I prolly would not have done much better. Can’t blame all the misses on chokes and trees.
finally got the spare parts gun to the range today. Mixed results. First off, my Primary Arms red dot has developed a habit of turning itself off after every shot or two, and the adjustment for elevation got stripped. It is going into the trash, because it is garbage. I’ll just run it with the scope for now. Then there were the FtFs due to light strikes, 40% failure rate. I used a somewhat light spring kit that is apparently too light so I replaced the springs.
On a positive note, I like the balance and feel of the rifle, it is fairly light. The Carlson’s Comp worked better than I would have thought. It did a great job keeping the muzzle down without the nasty blast of a break. And, the brass ejected perfectly at 4 o’clock.
