Quoting posts don't show

Seeing a possible glitch in the matrix. It’s happened multiple times for me, on different days, so I don’t think it’s my browser.

When highlighting a portion of a members post to quote, a little pop-up shows up, and you click “quote”, and it adds it to a new message.

After I post my portion of the new post, with the quote on top, when I post the total message to the thread, the original quote doesn’t show, just my new text. Is this a new bug.

If I want that quote to show, I have to go back and do another “copy quote”, and add it back into the post, as a edit.

What also is strange, on that same new post, the highlighted “edit pencil” shows up, even if I haven’t made a edit on it yet. If I do back and post the quote again, then the 2 “pencil” shows, as if I edited the post twice.

I mainly use my iPad to browse, doesn’t happen to me.

Strange, anyone else notice this?

Only when I copy an entire post.

This is what I see:

are you on mobile or desktop?

If you are quoting the entire post of someone’s immediate prior message, Discourse wipes it out. Apparently this is by design.

that

That what? Desktop browser? I figured that out after I had some coffee

coffee good, coffee make wakey wakey.

That is what I see too, when I copy just a portion of someone’s post, and it inserts that portion in the box where I I’m posting my part. But when I hit “Reply” to post my comment in the thread, the quoted portion disappears in it.

I’m on a laptop running Firefox. My last post above actually inserted your quote like it was suppose to. And the little “pencil” edit icon doesn’t show, like if I did an edit.

Weird

There is a setting I can change but then things may get cluttered if copying entire previous post.

Also weird I can’t get it to do it for me.

So now, this morning, both of my posts acted normal, where over previous days, I was having that issue. Any chance an update took place overnight?

Or, is it the Russians…

I never copy someone’s entire post, I just pull out a sentence or two, for a specific reference.

well…

Ahhh, so the system automatically removed the quote, but it was only one sentence in that previous post, but Discourse thought it was too long??

And, if you go look at my post in that thread, the pencil icon has a “1” next to it, meaning that there was an edit.

I believe it will do this when you are the next reply and quote the entire previous post.

The system does this on it’s own. Not sure if immediate or when some thread runs.
