Question regarding a scope

Mounted a leupold scope on a new 22mag rifle, the rifle came with a pic rail installed, remounted the rail with lock tight and installed a cantilever scope mount, installed my scope and when I zero it I’m at the end of adjustment and still two inches low.

Tried a remount with same cantilever mount and it came up slightly better but still not zero’d, had a set of rings, slightly lower than the cantilever so installed those, when I zero I’m still at the end of my adjustment but still 1 1/2inches low, friend suggested lower rings, bought the lowest rings I could find, installed those and now I am zero’d but at the very end of my adjustment.

Never had this happen before, what am I missing? Is my scope bad, can I shim the scope to gain some adjustment? The windage is spot on, no issue there. My only option that I see is to try a different scope and see how it goes.

What distance are you zeroing at?

Does the pic rail or the mount have an angle adjustment built in? You can get them that are flat, or incorporate a 10, 20, 30 moa offset for long range use. For example my DD Delta 5 Pro comes with 20moa base and I use a 20moa mount for a total of 40moa. The scope I have on that gun does have enough adjustment that I can zero at 100 yards, but not all scopes have +/- 40moa. The offset allows the other end of the scope’s adjustment to cater for the bullet drop at extended ranges.

Additionally, did you use a torque wrench to set the scope rings correctly? Over tight rings can crush the scope tube so that the tracking stops working. If you didn’t go full grunt mode, loosening them may fix it, but if you deformed the scope, it is broken and will have to go back to the manufacturer who may or may not be able to fix it.

25 yards

I did use a torque wrench

The pic rail has no adjustment

The rings have no adjustment

Once spring arrives I will be able to stretch it to 100 yards.

The scope has a 60 moa for adjustment

That’s a puzzler, then. I’m stumped for you.

I do have a set of adjustable rings, think I’ll try that before unmounting a scope from another rifle.

How high above bore is the scope mounted?

If you have a red dot laying around, mount and zero that at 25 yds. see if you get the same POI problem.

A pic of the setup would be helpful.

Just headed to NC for some post surgery recuperation, when I get back to NJ I’ll dive into the scope again.

Had a friend with a similar problem on a slug gun. No fun chasing zero on a 12ga. Ended up the rings were installed backwards. Front ring in back, back ring in front. Check to see if the pic was installed backwards.
