Anchor rebates , Senior freeze. I just did mine online and its pretty simple.
Here’s the link.
I have to ask: Am I the only one that thinks the ANCHOR name is appropriate because it basically NJ property taxes sink you down like an anchor?
That’s because REACHAROUND was too long
anchor babies worked out pretty good for the democrats they are applying the anchor principle every where they can. Democrats are used to shackling people with chains. Throwing a chain on people just comes naturally to them.
There’s no doubt we are over taxed . 23% of the NJ population are illegal invaders.
Lets see what this July’s budget looks like, especially when they lose federal funds for everything murphy is opposing trump on.
I filed last year, and I think I remember it said if you filed last year, you would automatically be included this year. Here’s what was on that link in the OP:
Eligible New Jersey homeowners and renters under 65 and not collecting Social Security disability benefits may have their ANCHOR applications automatically filed when online filing becomes available in Summer 2025. If you do not receive an Auto-File Confirmation Letter, you will have the opportunity to file an Application for Property Tax Relief on your own.
So, does that sound like it will be automatic THIS year??
I filed mine and got a confirmation number, according to the budget its first come first serve.
They said that about 2024 too and I never received any info so I had to file myself and waited and had to contact my assemblyman to get any results.
I just tried to do mine. It made me make a ID.me account… What a cluster fark… It couldn’t ID me, even though I’ve lived in this state for the majority of my life, and paid taxes here, and nothing in my past is hidden…
I had to upload even more info to verify, and I have to sit in a cue to facetime with an agent to prove who I am…
Unbelieveable, Everything this state touches turns to crap…
I also had to make a ID Me account but i don’t remember it being a issue
Since they can’t confirm it’s me, they want me to sit for a half hour, waiting for the next agent, so I can show them my driver’s license on webcam… what a joke…
The other joke, I applied and received Senior Freeze and ANCHOR last year, so all my information is already in the system, but somehow our wonderful state government can’t figure out if it’s me…
Social Security is in the process of switching to ID me
Here is the writeup I recently posted to one of my town’s FB groups.
This is for the seniors in our community that will be filling out the new combined PAS-1 application for the Stay NJ, Senior Freeze, and Anchor Rebate programs. Feel free to share this post. Complete information about the program, and everything I describe below, can be found at the NJ Property Tax Relief webpage.
The deadline is Oct 31, 2025.
Several days ago, I filled out and submitted online the PAS-1 form and thought it would be informative to share my experience with the community, with the caveat, DUE YOUR OWN DUE DILIGENCE AND YOUR OWN EXPERIENCE MAY VARY.
Whether you submit by mail or online you will need to have at the ready:
- Your Social Security 1099s (SSA-1099) for tax years 2023 and 2024.
- Your NJ1040 tax returns for tax years 2023 and 2024.
- Your real estate tax statements for 2023 and 2024.
At the NJ State website (link above), you can either print OR submit online the application. Submitting online was not for the faint of heart (and I say that as a retired IT professional). You may wish to first print it along with the instructions and manually complete the PAS-1 application form. Then you can decide whether to just mail it or submit it online. Doing it online will provide the benefit of an immediate confirmation that it has been submitted, and you will be all done and can move on with your life, lol.
My experience submitting it online was as follows:
As with anything important, I prefer to use my PC rather than trying to do it all on my mobile device. Recommend you do a fresh reboot of your PC first and also pause any VPN(e.g. NordVPN) that you may be using.
In order to log into the state’s website, you must have “ID me” login credentials. I did not and I assume most of you don’t either. So you need to go thru the process of creating it. You only need to do this once. That process requires proof of who you are such as either a passport or drivers license. It first had me enter some information via my PC web browser. Then the web page paused, directing me to open a link that was sent in a text msg to my iPhone. Using my cellphone, it directed me to 1) take a photo of my passport which it uploaded and analyzed, and then 2) point the camera at my face whereby it did a biometric scan of my face. Once I completed those steps with my cellphone, the web page on my PC refreshed and allowed me to complete the process of creating my ID me password and setting up 2FA (i.e. a pin code) with my cellphone.
Now that you have your ID me credentials, you can proceed to login in and fill out the various screens associated with the PAS-1 application itself. If you are married, only one of you needs to do all of this. The application will ask for your spouse’s name. If you already gathered the required financial info listed above, then the application is straight forward. Note that when I did finally hit the submit button, I received an error web page and had to start over. The second time I used the Microsoft Edge browser rather than Google Chrome, and re-entered the information. I was able to then successfully submit it and received a confirmation.
Hope this helps.
p.s. If you typically have an accountant do your taxes and you find this PAS process daunting, perhaps have them also submit this for you.
I ended up doing all that too, but the system still couldn’t verify me, and kicked me over to wait for an agent. I tried for hours, but there was always a 30 minute wait for the agent. Finally, around 11 PM, I got into the cue, and only had to wait a few minutes. Once the agent connected, and I had to jump through all these text prompts, I Facetimed with her, and she had me hold my driver’s license up in front of my face… Finally after that, I got verified, and was able to complete the online application. It was a real joke…
Isnt this the third year now for the ANCHOR program?
I was automatically enrolled in it, i never did anything, and theyve sent me 2 checks now, each year. Hopefully this year is no different, as i dont see any changes unless youre doing the dual file for senior freeze.
I did the dual file last year, and I expected that the system would have recognized me from last year, and told me I didn’t have to fill it all out, because it would be automatic, but it didn’t.
