Professional resume writer

is there such a thing as a professional resume writer?, I think on the old forums there was a sticky about careers and resumes. daughter is looking for a job after graduating college and were not sure how her resume is. I’m from the good old days when AI wasn’t the first step in getting to an interview and we dont know if were missing something. thanks

@Mrs.Peel is a professional writer, did professional resumes on the side. But while she did create an account on the new forum, I don’t think she’s been active here.

Yes, I used to be one. When I was a technical recruiter I rewrote thousands of resumes. I believe Peel was adept at it too.

These days folks use AI to write them.

Not sure but one thing to do is to install the Jobalytics Chrome plugin when using LinkedIn. It will compare resumes you upload against job posting keywords using ATS (Applicant Tracking System I believe). My understanding (which could be wrong) is to target good but not overly great matching, say 75-90%. Also know that ATS is used on incoming resumes a lot so you need formatting it can digest, which may not be what you are used to seeing. For my most recent job search from late 23/early 24, I had minimally two resumes going (and sometimes tuned to the specific position I was applying to), one for humans and one for machines. Last, sometimes the matching goes against irrelevant keywords in the job post, like “matching” from “401k matching” is one specific example I saw.

Good luck!

Yes, there are services to assist. Almost all of them are pay sites. I’ve not screwed around with it, but a good source of mine informs me that AI can do a pretty decent job. YMMV.

I’ve engaged @Mrs.Peel for my last 3 resumes and landed the job I was applying to each of the 3 times.

To be clear, in 2 out of the 3 applications I had an “in”; I knew someone at the hiring company, however I am certain that the resume editing was helpful also. I despise trying to sell myself and also HATE editing resumes so I really need the help.

In my opinion she is extremely experienced and knowledgeable. She also has advice beyond the resume editing (such as creating/modifying LinkedIn profiles) that I believe is very useful.

If anyone wants her contact info please DM me.

Something for her to consider, since she’ll be many others looking, and this goes against common wisdom, is for her to decide WHERE she wants to work, or what she wants to do. Then, find companies that offer that type of position.

Then, she should be PROACTIVE, and contact that company directly, with her information, versus just searching out Help Wanted ads, and applying, with tons of others, for that position.

By showing how PROACTIVE she is, this will give her a leg up on all other potential applicants.
