I can’t seem to find the answer to this question. I got my firearms id card back in 1982. From what I’ve read your SBI number is your number for life. I’ve moved a few times and always went to my new town’s police station and got the address changed. What happens if I move to Florida full time. Do I than contact the NJ state police and have the card changed to my Florida Address or are Firearms ID cards only issued to NJ residents?
If you have a secondary residence in NJ, you can get your current FPID changed by the NJSP to a non-resident fpid card
Do you plan on coming back often and bringing a pistol? You literally don’t need it once you establish permanent residency in FL.
If you’re leaving NJ for good then have a burn party and torch your FID card.
When I retire we plan on selling the business property and our home. I don’t plan on coming back to NJ but you never know.
Resident or non-resident, it would be foolish to burn your FID if you own property in NJ.
An FPIC does nothing for you with a handgun. It only gives you the ability to possess long guns.
For a handgun, you need a permit to carry, or you must operate within the exemptions, e.g. going directly to/from a range.
Funny. I ran across my old NJ FOID card last weekend.
Didn’t burn it though, just stuck it back in the drawer…to remind me of darker times.
Same here. My comment was meant if you moved out completely. I secretly wish Jersey would try to contact me to explain. But one can only dream.
If you have moved out of state but want to have an FPIC, you need to do a change of address in FARS. It will be processed by NJSP and you will get an electronic card with your new out of state address on it.
Your existing card became invalid after 30 days from when any of the details you gave to get it changed, including your address.
Thank you Mr. Stu.
