Old Bridge Rifle & Pistol Club

Any members of OBRPC on this site? I just went through the orientation this past Sunday. Obviously haven’t shot on my own there yet but boy o boy, I think I’m gonna effen LOVE being a member there. Once we were done, I thought I had died and woke up in free America!

Hi Ed, I’m an OBRPC member.

Hey DD

How’s your experience been there so far? In my almost 40 years of shooting firearms, this is the second facility that had / has an outdoor range. The other one was Cherry Ridge. Never went back after a very negative experience.

Seems like OBRPC lets you take personal responsibility in addition to RSO supervision- refreshing. The many inter club groups, and wide array of outdoor ranges sound just great. I think joining here is going to boost my time at the line for sure.

I have my orientation in July, I can’t wait!

Great, as long as you follow the rules.

The first time I rolled up on the indoor range at 10:45 pm and it was empty except for me was…inspiring.

Some tips for getting the most out of your OBRPC membership:

The Calendar - Learn it - Read it often - Check it first before planning any range outing:

https://obrpcorg.trumba.com/

OBRPC hosts a LOT of events and classes at both the indoor and outdoor ranges.

Especially at the indoor range, an event/class can make the range entirely unavailable to non-participants.

If you get in the habit of just packing up and heading out to the range without checking the calendar you WILL, shortly, end up having to go back home without shooting.

Events: They have some cool ones there. I especially like OBRAMS (Basically IDPA style stuff for .22 caliber pistols/rifles, wish I could participate more). Some events are very welcoming and don’t require a lot of preparation. Other events require A LOT of advance prep work and are always near/at capacity and they will not hold your hand, especially the “Action”/USPSA style events. I think you have to get signed up for those at least a week in advance of the event. If you’re interested in events/competitions you may need to “get in gear” very early to get into them.

The Rules: You NEED to know them and follow them. They aren’t just guidelines. Even if there’s no one else physically present at the range you are still being observed. Do something minor, like not sweep up your target debris after a range session, you can expect an email “correction”. Do something major, like a big safety violation and you can find your membership and access immediately revoked. If in doubt, ask. Never hesitate to ask.

Members get discounted fees for matches.

I’m not a member, but I have been helping out at the monthly PPC match on the 2nd Friday evening each month at the indoor range.

It’s a great facility, just a bit too far from my house to justify becoming a member.

Not to brag (totally to brag ) I shot the high score last month with a 591 (32x).

I’m kind of disgusted with them. I submitted an application a couple of years ago and received no acknowledgement. Sent them a follow-up inquiry and still received no response. I know they have lots of members and a long waiting list, but that’s just rude. I’m perfectly happy to stick with Shore Shot and Range 14.

Sorry to hear they dropped the ball with you. My initial application and enrollment was seamless, no complaints from me.

DD - thank you for the detailed reply - exactly the stuff I was looking for. I see where DocHoliday did not have a positive experience. Actually the first time I applied and reserved a spot for the orientation my appointment was not confirmed and I missed the first session I applied for. The second try was fine. I still have a membership at Shore Shot but lord does that place do a hell of business! I still work M-F so it’s just weekends and I often have to wait and waste quite a bit of time to go there.

Welcome to NJGF @Chucklehead !

”Makes”? No, there’s no range work required to be a member.

Range work is OPTIONAL if you want work time credited against your yearly dues. Whether that time is worth the savings it is up to you.

Congratulations on making it past range orientation. Probation is a hell of a lot easier than used to be (mixed feelings on that) so it’s all down hill from there. Try out some leagues you might like and enjoy yourself

Planenut: The orientation was not really a chore, got to shoot a bit and the tour of the outdoor ranges was cool. 100% on the leagues. I’m a revolver guy so the bullseye and PPC are what I’m interested in. Also I inherited an almost pristine Ruger Old Army that I would love to shoot so I’ll want to talk to the guys in the black powder group.

I am for 10 years, all is good so far.

I’ve been a member close to 10yrs now. I moved a few years ago so its a bit farther and havent been able to go as often. However, I did join another club - SCFGPA in Bridgewater. A bit smaller and no outdoor rifle / pistol (only indoor pistol caliber with rifle separate), but every bit as nice otherwise.

I’ve been spoiled since joining private clubs. Don’t need to nor want to deal w/ FUDDs, unsafe n00bs and over zealous RO’s.

I was a member there for about five years. I moved to South Jersey so I did not renew my membership there. I tried to make all their Knockdown Steel events, they were my favorite. Shot PPC and PCC all the time, still talk to Rosie. I competed in a LOT of their leagues, had a good time.

After the range upgrades SCFGPA is phenomenal in terms of facilities.

Love my ROA !!
If you ever want to shoot, PM me.

Hey Sudsy:

Absolutely would love to join you to shoot my new to me ROA. I can’t bring a guest for a stretch till I become a full member. I know you are a fisherman - gonna go out for sea bass on Saturday. Sounds like the bigger fish are now moving inshore…

You can come with me to Central Jersey

I’ll be out hunting them up in the Li Sound on Saturday, Looking forward to a fish fry !!
