I noticed in the May American Rifleman a brief article saying the NRA Board of Directors has resolved to claw back all legal expenses and related fees paid since 2019 to the NRA’s former Executive Vice President. Good for them-I hope they are successful.
The NY Code covering indemnification for officers and directors of nonprofits allows for such indemnification to be revoked for cause, and since a NY jury previously found LaPierre guilty of failure of fiduciary duty, in receiving some $5 million in excess benefits, he is disqualified from indemnification. The NRA can attempt to recover the funds. Which I suspect won’t be easy, but I’d love to see the money back in NRA coffers rather than in LaPierre’s pockets.
I’m sure Wayne has plenty of assets. If the NRA lawyers can prove to a jury via preponderance of the evidence that he acquired said assets from pilfering the NRA coffers is another story. My guess is both parties settle for around 10 cents on a dollar and call it a win.
Unrelated good news: it has been a good few months for convicting crooked politicians. First former senator Menendez, then his accomplice/wife, and now George Santos has been sentenced to 87 months–the max that the prosecutors had asked for.
