Anyone read this on 2A news, denying someone based on internet speech? I think someone threating to vote democrat is a far scarier threat to democracy then what this guy did
” it is the first step a firearm owner must take to lawfully purchase and possess a firearm in New Jersey.
Did NJ change the law? I was under the impression anyone moving TO NJ does not need an FID to possess. Same goes for parents gifting a rifle to offspring, No FID required for inheritance either. The only restrictions being, the firearms must be NJ compliant and can only drive to and from exempt locatons, eg range, FFL etc.
Obviously having a FID makes life a lot easier, like necessary to buy ammo now, but I’m not so sure about possession.
Yes, NJ changed the law, people moving to NJ with firearms now have a certain amount of time to obtain a FID to legally possess in NJ.
Does this also affect gifting long guns to immediate family or inheriting any firearm? When did this change happen?
That has not been a thing as long as I have been a NJ firearm owner. Immediate family are exempt from the NICS check for a transfer, but the kid has always needed an FPIC for a long gun, or a PtPP for a handgun (which they can’t get until they are 21)
FPID. The P stands for purchaser. This is bullshit and will only be another lawsuit to be fought.
The P in the name of the card does stand for purchaser, but having the card allows you to possess unloaded rifles and shotguns without having to rely on the 2C:39-6 exemptions.
Pretty much all of NJ’s firearms laws are BS and should be struck down. They start with the premise that possession of any firearm is illegal and then carve out exceptions and exemptions. That is the most anti-2A BS ever!
Just wait until they (soon) add A.I. to the mix, and start scraping info about you from the Interwebs, to decide if they’ll give you a P2P or a new FID card.
That is how to apply for one. It doesn’t control what it is used for. You will find that in the statutes.
2C:39-5 Unlawful possession of weapons.
…
c. Rifles and shotguns.
(1) Any person who knowingly has in his possession any rifle or shotgun without having first obtained a firearms purchaser identification card in accordance with the provisions of N.J.S.2C:58-3, is guilty of a crime of the third degree.(2) Unless otherwise permitted by law, any person who knowingly has in his possession any loaded rifle or shotgun is guilty of a crime of the third degree.
All bullshit. I’m moving back to PA ASAP.
