Any MCRPC members here? I’d like to know more about the club, range, events, etc.
Hope you’re not planning on joining soon. Last I looked the waiting time was pretty crazy.
I used to be a member, it’s OK pretty limited, one 100 yard range, one 50 yard range and a handful of pits. No buildings. I left because the shotgun shares the 100 yard and if someone shows with a rifle the shotgunners have to stop.
Some of that might have changed in the years since I left
Does / did have a good bunch of guys
Yeah, but it’s much closer than the WMA ranges and it’s not expensive to join. I looked into CJRPC several years ago, way too expensive for me. It’s a good deal if you shoot pistols often, IIRC they have a 24hr access indoor pistol range. And you can hunt on the property too.
CJRPC is a fantastic deal for an all around sportsman, pistol, rifle, clays and hunting, but the only attraction to me was the 300yd rifle range and I just couldn’t justify the cost for only that.
I used to be a member at Dix but that’s almost as bad, nearly an hour drive.
I was a member there years ago before switching to CJ. The biggest gripe i had was the rule of no steel targets anywhere, anytime, no exceptions. I wonder if that had ever changed?
Steel is used regularly in the pistol pits, they have an advisory posted on how steel is to be set up. Ways to mount, angles, etc. I don’t know about the rifle range.
Shooting Steel you actually have to be checked out by and RSO/Instructor in order to shoot steel, outside a competition. Yeah the wait is a psychotic 3 years, mainly because membership is capped at 600. I put mine application in when Old Bridge first announced the news that the outdoor range would be going bye-bye. Surprisingly 2.5 years later, while the Old Bridge drama was on going (and still is), I was called to do a range qualification. Didn’t get called again until the Christmas after to ask if I wanted to still join. I took the offer since Old Bridge is still up in the air. It was a one year probation where you need a mix of 4 meetings, work parties, or competitions through the year. If you’ve got any other questions feel free to ask me.
PS: The rifle and shotgun range are combined so when you’re doing one you really can’t do much of the other. Though you can coordinate with your fellow shooters in between.
I was there yesterday with a friend who’s a member - the surveyor’s were there
Me too… plus the 200 all purpose, and the 5 shotgun stations. They really sealed the deal for me - even with it being a 40 minute drive.
The little 100 yard range at Monmouth County R&P got pretty old pretty quick
Many years ago, the Monmouth range used to be in a totally different plot of lant but in the same general area (you can see remnants of it on satelllite view). They used to claim they still had some claim to the old area and would mention expansion from time to time. Do they still bring this up or was that a load of BS?
Haven’t heard about that they still own the old land, I was under the impression it was sold. I do know the current site was opened around 04/05. Current site is somewhere between 40-45 acres, but they’re limited to the 5-7 acres they’ve developed already because the rest are wetlands. I do wonder how much of it actually is owned by them because I hear this land was (or may still be) owned by Monmouth Executive Airport (kind of bugs an airplane guy like me when I hear shooters complain about aircraft noise )
When I was a member 25 years ago the property was owned by Ed Brown, who owned the airport.
If I were a member now I would be doing everything I could to keep the county from forcing the sale (been going on for a while now). If the county gets it I would not be surprised to see an end to the club.
At the very least get the current owners to sign a long term lease, a 99 year land lease would be best.
