Middle Township misinformation from Chief of Police

I cannot vouch for this personally, but it was reported in the NJ Firearms Owners Syndicate group on FB by two different members. Apparently, Middle Township (Cape May County) Police Chief Tracey Poley is informing PTC holders and applicants there that NJ prohibits on-person carry in motor vehicles, and that he has also instructed his LEOs to that effect. Middle seems to be playing musical chairs with the CoP and some other municipal positions, so this might be politically motivated, or possibly just the result of Poley not being up to speed on the law. Not excusable, of course, no matter what the reason. You might want to take this in consideration if you plan to drive through Middle while carrying…

Perhaps Chief Poley (or is it Chief Super?) is going solely by the law on the books and isn’t aware of the injunction in place against portions of that law, including carrying in cars.

Sucks - as a citizen, if our understanding of the law is incorrect, we get legal fees/fines/jail/loss of rights.

As a police chief, if you get the law wrong, you may get a strong letter.

or fired, if the mayor thinks he/she will not get reelected as long as a rogue chief has a job. Some letters are stronger than others. The strong ones have thousands of signatures.

Are you sure that name is correct and it’s not Tracey Super?:

Middle Township Committee voted unanimously to promote Captain Tracey Super to the position of Police Chief, effective July 1st, 2024. Current Chief Jennifer Pooler will retire effective the same date.

It is Chief Tracey Super, who "super"ceded Jennifer Pooler. I was working from memory, not a good idea for me with names. Apologies to anyone out there names “Tracey Poler”…

Judging from the rapid turnover of CoP cited in that article, it appears more likely the officeholder is on a ferris wheel up the political ladder, Middle is one of the few exceptions to a (relatively) conservative, GOP-leaning, South Jersey. I suspect that may have something to do with the misinformation, whether it was unintentional or not.
