About 40 years ago the bay froze up it was 20* for almost a month there were people driving on the river near the seaside bridge it was like a woods party out on the ice. My friends and I were out there it was crazy.we drove onto the ice from the island heights beach.

There was a guy that drove his VW bug on Toms River all the time in the 80s.
Right around the time I got my license, my parents gave me the family 1967 Chrysler Imperial. For those familiar with Bricktown, down the end of Mantoloking road headed towards the beach end there is Tilton Road. You could drive right to the end of Tilton Road and go right onto the Metedeconk River…and that is what we did. Never had so much fun going 120 MPH and then cutting the wheel hard spinning out of control. We through a rod in that 440 and the next day we read about the guy going through the ice in Toms River. Those were the days.
