Absolutely!! HD video requires a hell of a lot of bandwidth, that in many cases, you can’t get with WiFi cameras, depending on the router location. Plus, hardwired cameras allow for continuous video streaming/recording, not the crappy 20 second clips many WiFi cameras allow. Sometimes, incidents take place over more that 20 second “bites”. Plus, hardwired can’t be “hacked”.
Yeah, I hear you there. I installed my original system over 12 years ago, when many systems were analog HD, so I have BNC and power cables running all over my attic. Systems today are mostly PoE, and CAT 6 gets run, but I’m not going to crawl all over my attic now, and pull all new cables, so I’m stuck running HD analog, and surprisingly, some new cameras have decent resolution, even on analog.
Over the years, I’ve changed out many of my cameras and updated them, along with the DVR.
Also, what many people don’t realize with many WiFi cameras, is that the battery needs to be recharged regularly, so it means running a power supply from somewhere to the camera, to keep it charged. So, my feeling, if you’re going to run a power supply anyway, just run the CAT6 from the beginning, and be done with it, and have a BETTER system.
