Ironsights Academy Dynamic Defensive Pistol AAR

I took this class last Sunday at the tucked away Jersey Devil Outfitters range in Manchester.

Instructor Jeff Harmon has developed a nice school with tactical training, which I have been happy to find since moving to the shore from north Jersey. The class was practical training in concealed carry. It is designed both for people who have obtained their CCW license and want to improve their skills, as well as for seasoned shooters who want to review what they have learned in the past, have the chance to practice things that can’t generally be done at an ordinary range, and perhaps pick up a few new ideas.

The class started out slowly on a chilly morning, and then the intensity ramped up as the shooters demonstrated their safety and proficiency. As in any good class, there was a strong emphasis on safety. We worked our way through drills that involved moving while shooting, shooting from awkward positions, engaging multiple targets, and rapid fire shooting.

The class was a totally practical approach to everyday carry. It involved concepts like drawing and not shooting, which helps to break the training scar of shooting every time the gun comes out of the holster. There were no battle belts in this class. We drew from concealment all day, including in the stress inducing timed shooting toward the end.

This was Jeff’s first time offering this class. It was well thought out, and flowed seamlessly.

I would recommend classes like this to anyone looking for intermediate or higher levels of tactical training.
