How long should I wait to inquire/complain

So, I submitted my “renewal” application on December 15. All 4 of my references were contacted and replied affirmatively within 3 days. My status on the portal has been “pending” ever since. I am under NJSP Woodbine station local jurisdiction. My current permit expires on Febuary 23, 2025. I am wondering how long I should wait before trying to find out what is going on, and who I should begin with. IIRC, after the reference check has been completed, the processing responsibility is on local PD (NJSP Woodbine in my case). Is that correct? At what point does it get transferred to NJSP FIU in Trenton? For my initial permit, which took nearly 7 months to obtain, I ended up making some very loud noises and sending registered mail to everyone in the food chain and their in-laws before I was approved. In retrospect, it appeared that Woodbine station was the major culprit in the delay. I’m perfectly willing to raise all kinds of H*ll again, but not unless and until it proves necessary. OTOH, I don’t want to wait until I am expired and need to cease carrying until the issue is resolved. Has anyone else here gone through NJSP Woodbine recently, and how long did it take? Any advice?

Grima, you may want to check out this discussion on Facebook Group - “New Jersey Firearms Owners Syndicate 2” from November '24 all about dealing with Woodbine barracks:

It’s a private group so you’d have to join the group to see it. If that’s a problem then let me know and I’ll figure out a way to get you the content of the post.

A sample of the discussion, there’s a lot more in the thread:

I’m now pending for “New Jersey Firearm Owners Syndicate 2” which is the only item that showed up for a FB search for that name. Is that the correct location?

Yes it is, apologies, I left the ‘2’ out of my earlier post.

NP. Looks like I’m going to be contacting Michael Testa again, like i did the first time, depending on what I see in that group about the outcome for that guy.

I got into that FB group, read the thread, and exchanged DMs with Ron DeBaecke, who is the mayor of North Hanover Township, in Burlington County. He was told 6 months, but did receive his permit just this Friday, just short of the 90 day legal limit. Whether or not he was accelerated from a 6 month delay to 3 months because of his position, or his publicizing the issue, I have no idea. DeBaecke was apparently randomly assigned to Woodbine for processing because the law bars public officials from submitting to a PD over which they may have political influence. I also saw claims in that thread that for those applications, NJSP uses retired police officers to process, which slows things down. That implies a completely different processing path for elected municipal officials, which I find somewhat implausible. If NJSP had insufficient staff to process carry permit applications, I could see them employing contractors, but I would think that would be for all applications, not for what must be a very small fraction of them. Anyway, if mine comes through in 90 days, I will be inconvenienced by lacking a permit for a month, but while that would make me quite unhappy, it probably doesn’t rise to the level that would motivate me to raise as much Holy He11 as possible on all responsible. A significantly longer delay will absolutely have that effect. My plan right now is to contact NJSP for a specific timeline for my application shortly before my current permit expiration date, and go from there, depending on the answer.

Just curious… Since 2A is a federal rights issue, is it outside the scope of the federal government to investigate why the NJSP is slow walking these permits…

In my opinion, beaverpuss has instructed the NJSP to delay permits as long as possible, and uses under funded under staffed as the “legitimate” plausibly deniable reason for this BS.

Do we have a reliable Republican in NJ that can make an appeal to a federal level politician. Trump is heavily invested in NJ with his golf courses and spends a lot of time here too. I bet Trump has little love for the demoncrat machine here would love to dismantle it. Or at least throw a wrench in the works.

Why should NJ citizens have to be left carrying the bag fighting these political lawfare games the dems use to keep NJ citizens under their thumb. That’s what this is all about. It is too expensive for citizens to fight for our rights, and if being honest, too profitable for 2A lawyers.

It might well be within the scope, considering 2A enhanced by 14A, but there is no history that I am aware of where this was actually done. Frankly, I think it might take a decision on the order of Bruen and Heller to make it happen. Re who might advance this in Congress, I suppose Van Drew might listen, but, again, I’m skeptical of favorable resolution at that level.

Well, I just emailed my inquiry on how much longer approval or denial should take to Woodbine FIU and copied Trenton. Since this was my first contact re this application cycle, I was polite. That may not last very long, depending on the response. We shall see…

Wondering if the new AG pam bondi will order the DOJ to investigate NJ as well as other communist states and if they can order a consent decree ordering them comply with the 2A as well as any other applicable laws pertaini g to guns? These consent decrees weed out police misconduct. Same as “driving while black” consent decrees that the NJSP are known for. How about a decree for 2A

Pam Bondi is not nearly as Pro 2A as I would like. I would not hold my breath on her going out of her way to support the Second Amendment.

I know her record in fla. Maybe the us attorney for NJ who i think trump just appointed. This could be a way to circumvent the painfully slow legal process. Nj gun groups need to think outside the box. A lawsuit a day!

@Grima - Not sure if it has any effect on your situation, but on the latest GunForHire podcast they discussed a recent NJSP change - apparently NJSP is starting to randomly assign PTC investigations across all NJSP barracks to attempt to evenly distribute the workload.

My guess is it’s only for non-resident PTC’s.

That’s what I surmised as well.

I suspect that is the case. In any event the “leave us alone” email reply from Trenton FIU informed me that I should contact Wooodbine station. Even though Woodbine FIU was the primary addressee and Trenton was a “cc”, which indicates that the reply may have been automated.

I sent my first status inquiry by email to Woodbine FIU on 2/6 and received no answer. I sent a somewhat sterner (but still very civil) email follow-up yesterday, 2/13. I was assuming I would not get an answer to that, either. To my surprise, I did get a reply from the Woodbine investigator telling me how busy they are, and that permits were taking up to 90 days to process, but also offering to try to expedite if mine was near expiry. After I replied that it was, and two more brief email exchanges, I have my permit! The NJ process still obviously sucks wang, but I must give credit to this one guy, who put some effort into helping me. Considering the source, that was quite a pleasant surprise. Now I’m off (virtually) to NJ Liberty Cards for plastic copies.
