Anybody a member of this club or shot with them recently? Interested in learning more about them.
I’m a member, how can I help?
Thanks for the reply!
I’m a very casual/occasional trap shooter, and at times my GF and her 16 y/o son would like to shoot too.
I understand the club runs Sundays 9:30 - 2 and Thursdays 9:30 - 8.
Some questions:
-
Can I/we “drop in” for a shoot, or is membership required?
-
Assuming “drop in” is an option, what’s the cost per person/per round?
-
FID/hunter’s license strictly required for shooters? GF and I have FID’s, but obviously her son does not
-
Any restrictions on shotgun types (understand the restriction on ammo)? Semi-auto ok (only loaded with 1 round)?
-
Do rounds run all day regardless of participants? If we show up at 1:00 pm on a Thursday afternoon and it’s just 1-3 of us there, would we still be able to shoot?
Yes you can absolutely drop in for a shoot at any time during normal hours. They host ATA shoots as well but generally not during normal days open to not interfere with the casual shooters. The cost for new shooters is $9/round for basic members and drops to $6 if you become an associate member and finally $5 as a full member.
A FOID is required for anyone of legal age to posses one. Your GF’s son can shoot with a responsible adult present but cannot share guns while on the firing line.
A semi auto is ok to shoot but no “tactical” variants are allowed and no shot can be bigger than 7.5. Generally there is a $25 new shooter’s qualification to ensure that you and everyone else is safe while handling a firearm but is a one time charge.
Everyone is extremely friendly and it is a family friendly environment. Most shooters and staff are fast to help new shooters because we just want you to have fun and shoot well. The club is open year round and we still generally still shoot if it’s light rain but stop as soon as lightening strikes. There isn’t always someone that man’s the phones if you call but feel free to PM me on here to ask if we’re open. I shoot every Thursday normally starting around 3pm and there until close.
One last note, every Thursday night the members cook dinner for everyone at 6pm. All are welcome to join and just ask for a small donation towards the expense. You’re still free to hang out if you do not want to eat but nobody will be shooting during dinner time from 6-7pm.
I hope this answers most of your questions but feel free to ask anything else!
Hope to see you out there!
How busy are Sundays?
By “new shooter” do you mean someone who has never been to the club before, or just inexperienced shooters that have never shot on a trap range?
In my 40 years of shooting trap, I have never been made to pay for a qualification at any of the many ranges I’ve gone to.
It’s for everyone their first time shooting I’m told unless there is known abilities. I could be wrong and it may just be for new members.
Thanks much for the reply, very appreciated and we’ll likely be stopping by soon.
One add’l question if I may on this:
Just so I know what not to bring, can you expand on what “tactical” actually means?
I’ve got a range of shotguns I could run, enjoy shooting them all, but would like a bit more clarity so I know what not to bring. Is it just optics that aren’t allowed, or is it defined as something else?
Not a big deal either way.
They mean no AR style, Saiga, or other magazine fed guns. Semi auto field guns or even semi auto trap guns are totally allowed
