@ Costco $ 2.69 a gal. It’s a shame the d bag democrats are going to raise gas taxes again.
Without the hgh taxes to pay for the D’s extravagant social programs (cuz it sure as hell isn’t road improvements), NJ would have the lowest gas prices in the nation. We used to have the best prices up until around the late 2000’s. I somehow feel that Hess selling out had somethng to do with it, connected somehow.
Going up 4.2 cents per gallon. Currently at 44.9 cents. So, new cost is 49.1 cents. Then add in 18.4 cents per gallon for the Fed portion.
And here’s the best kicker, electric car owners don’t pay a cent of that gas tax, yet their vehicles drive and wear down the roadway, just as much as gas vehicles.
Go figure…
Used to be I’d plan my road trips so I’d fill up in NJ and avoid getting gas in other states.
Now it’s the inverse.
If not more from what I’ve heard.
Looks like NJ charges $250 per year for EVs. Goes up $10 per year for several years. Does that money make it to the highway trust fund? Who knows.
They pay their taxes via registration. I forget the exact number but it’s significantly higher than a standard gasser registration. Laughed when my neighbor was complaining about it
OK, so that’s $250 a year, and at the current gas tax rate of 45 cents and 18 cents = 63 cents, that would equal 396 gallons a year. That breaks down to a little over 7 gallons a week.
Does the average gasser driver use more or less than 7 gallons a week?
And, does that $250 go to the roads program, or just sucked into the black hole of NJ government. Does the .Gov get any of it, like they do on gas taxes, to go to the federal highways?
And EV drivers pay electric utility tax on top of that.
Does that go to fix the roads?
I’d be willing to bet it lines some politicians pocket, and so does our gas tax. I’m just pointing out they pay more in registrations to “make up” for the gas tax, not that NJ got the calculation right…we all know the state can’t get damn near anything right.
Here in central Texas, gas prices have dropped like a stone recently.
2 weeks ago I filled up my truck at $2.69/gallon.
Today, at the same station, $2.18.
Hopefully we are below $2.00 soon.
