Never heard this happening before, I guess there’s always a first time.
Murphy Declares State Of Emergency — Over Propane
An anticipated propane shortage prompted Governor Phil Murphy to declare a State of Emergency for New Jersey beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday.
A service disruption at a major propane distribution plant in Marcus Hook, Pennsylvania, is expected to impact the delivery of propane for home and commercial heating purposes.
New Jersey residents who may be impacted by the propane shortage should visit ready.nj.gov for important updates and safety information and NJ211 for information on resources and warming centers.
(I believe) This is a made up shortage. As people switch to propane from electric due to the price gouging thievery of electric. Propane will jump on the price hiking band wagon use a shortage as an excuse.
Actually, I was wondering why that hasn’t been done, for home usage, like propane, so I did a quick search. To store LNG takes some real special and costly equipment, and there’s a bunch of regulations to jump through. But, CNG (compressed natural gas) can be stored for home use.
But I found why it’s not done. Besides regulations again, CNG gets stored in tanks at between 3000 psi and 3600 psi in tanks. That’s some high pressures.
Where LPG (liquid propane gas) gets stored in tanks between 100 psi. to 200 psi. So it appears that the safety, storage and transport issues for CNG versus LPG make it more difficult to implement.
