Don't carry on expired permit, use a holster

Officers Dan O’Neill and Tom Foschini stopped a vehicle on River Road around 9:50 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8, for heavily tinted windows and crossing the double yellow line, according to New Milford Police Chief Brian T. Clancy.

That’s when the driver, Tajh Elliot, 28, of Teaneck, admitted he had a Glock tucked in his waistband, police said.

The officers tactically removed Elliot from the car, cuffed him, and safely unloaded the gun. A 10-round magazine was removed, and the weapon was logged into evidence.

Elliot claimed he had a permit to carry—but police said the permit had expired.

Elliot was charged with:

Possession of a handgun without a permit (2nd degree)
Carrying a firearm without a holster (4th degree)

He also was issued two tickets—one for tinted windows, the other for failure to maintain lane.

Elliot was processed at New Milford Police HQ before being taken to the Bergen County Jail, Clancy said.

What’s the rule? Only break 1 law at a time?

If you’re going to draw attention to yourself with dodgy driving and illegal tint, make sure you’re 100% good with the law for the gun you have with you.

The entire tint law needs to be changed, 35% in my opinion is no different than factory windows.
Also should be a secondary offense and not a primary reason to stop.
Ask why tint is illegal they will pull the old “officer safety” bullshit. I have tinted windows for MY safety which is paramount to the cops.

There are a lot of laws I disagree with. It won’t stop the police enforcing them and doing unpleasant things to me if I ignore them.

I strongly believe all of the following are unconstitutional, but I follow them anyway:

FPIC
Purchase permits
OGAM
Fees on top of fees for permits
“Convenience fee” for a transaction where they refuse to accept legal tender - i.e. cash
Carry permits
Magazine limits
Hollowpoint ban
Delays in processing permits

Guy is an idiot but i feel really bad. Dudes life is ruined for possessing a firearm he legally owns and could legally carry just a few months ago, but oops, your permit expired.
Its not like he’s a felon or didn’t have a permit EVER. And it can’t be expired by more than, what, 6 months? Just flat out silly.
That should be -at most- a fine.
Fuck this state.
