DOJ ending "zero tolerance" policy, establishing 2A Task Force

… Bondi’s task force memo doesn’t paint a picture of exactly when or how the new groups will do their work. DOJ announced an investigation into the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s handling of concealed carry permitting, but that wasn’t mentioned in the memo. Instead, Bondi says she will head the new force, and it will include representatives from different parts of the DOJ as well as the ATF and FBI–though, it doesn’t name specific officials.

“The Task Force is principally charged with developing and executing strategies to use litigation and policy to advance, protect, and promote compliance with the Second Amendment,” Bondi said.

The news also lands well after the deadline President Trump initially set for the Department of Justice to review executive branch gun policies. Additionally, the ATF said the new review of the two rules in question would take several more months.

“The DOJ and ATF will conduct an in-depth review over the coming months and will engage in consultations with stakeholders, including gun rights organizations, industry leaders and legal experts,” the ATF said in a statement. “Further updates on the status of these reviews will be released in due course.” …

The memo from Bondi:

April 8, 2025

MEMORANDUM FOR ALL DEPARTMENT EMPLOYEES

FROM: THE ATTORNEY GENERAL

SUBJECT: SECOND AMENDMENT ENFORCEMENT TASK FORCE

For too long, the Second Amendment, which establishes the fundamental individual right of Americans to keep and bear arms, has been treated as a second-class right. No more. It is the policy of this Department of Justice to use its full might to protect the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens.

President Trump has made protecting the Second Amendment rights a priority for this administration. As he explained, “[t]he Second Amendment is an indispensable safeguard of security and liberty,” because it “is foundational to maintaining all other rights held by Americans.” Executive Order 14206 § 1 (Protecting Second Amendment Rights). To that end, President Trump has directed me to propose a plan of action designed “to protect the Second Amendment rights of all Americans.” Id. § 2(a).

As one element of a comprehensive plan of action that I am proposing to the President, I am hereby creating a Second Amendment Enforcement Task Force. This task force will continue the Department’s ongoing work to implement Executive Order 14206 and protect the fundamental right secured by the Second Amendment. The Task Force is principally charged with developing and executing strategies to use litigation and policy to advance, protect, and promote compliance with the Second Amendment.

I will serve as the Chair of the Task Force and the Associate Attorney General will serve as the Vice Chair. The Task Force will be further composed of representatives from my personal staff, the Office of the Deputy Attorney General, the Office of the Associate Attorney General, the Office of the Solicitor General, the Civil Division, the Civil Rights Division, the Criminal Division, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, the Federal Bureau oflnvestigation, and any other components or representatives that I may from time to time designate to assist in the Task Force’s labors.

I hope they will review and restore FFLs that were guilty of nothing but being bad at paperwork.

I guess I’m just old and grumpy, but “talk is cheap" and “seeing is believing" comes to mind.

I was at Middletown Arms September last year and was talking to the owner about ending the zero tolerance policy, he said t was pretty much the same. ATF in NJ is still busting balls. That was a few months ago, maybe it’s changed.

The Hoplophobic Harridans are Hopping Mad. Must be some good changes then?

WASHINGTON — Giffords, the national gun violence prevention group led by former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, released a statement today after the Trump administration announced more than 30 new actions to make it easier for prohibited purchasers to avoid background checks and illegally obtain firearms. The Trump administration hosted the NRA, NSSF (the gun industry trade association), and a host of extremist gun lobby groups on-site for the announcement — just days after a gunman rushed the White House Correspondents Dinner to threaten the nation’s leaders and press corps. …

What a load of BS! They throw out bombastic statements with no supporting argument. They are counting on lazy people to read the byline and first paragraph and base their opinions on just that.

Nothing is going to change until they start making politicians personally responsible for pushing through obviously illegal laws.

Politicians don’t give a damn because nothing they do can come back to them personally.

The taxpayers foot the bill to fight laws that will obviously be overturned. How about stripping the politician of immunity. Like they are or trying to do to cops ICE, etc.

It will never happen, but I can wish…

Seeing this that indicates DOJ has ALSO sued Colorado over magazine restrictions - trying to get another source:
