The moderate (D)'s may be feeling it’s finally safe to diverge from the party line:

Rep. Evans, a Democrat House Representative, just shared a newsletter that’s turning heads. He has come out openly against his party’s gun control bills—HB 3075, HB 3076, and SB 243. He is even questioning his party affiliation, “The fervor advancing these measures has caused me to earnestly reconsider my party affiliation.” As a retired US Military officer, Evans calls these bills an “infringement” on the 2nd Amendment and Oregon’s Constitution, saying they go too far. He even admits he’s “ashamed” of the Democratic Party’s direction, feeling it’s been overtaken by “tyranny of the minority.”
It’s unusual to see a Democrat legislator break ranks like this, especially on gun control, a core party issue. Evans is putting principles over party, even if it costs him friends. I respect his courage, even if we don’t always agree.
