The CMP will be converting M14’s to semi auto and selling!
Orders should start shipping later this year/early next year.
This might be bumping the M1 Carbine down my milsurp buy list a bit.

Or, hear me out on this, while everyone is distracted by this buy an M1 Carbine. Maybe you’ll get one from someone selling one to fund an M-14 purchase

Assuming it’ll be the process as the M1 Garand sales… Above the normal gun purchasing process you’ll need proof of Membership in CMP Affiliated Org and Proof of Marksmanship

Haven’t seen anything on pricing. Assuming it’ll be around but a bit higher than Garand pricing.
Hell, new M1A’s are what? $1100 or so? $1500 for a real deal and I’ll be a happy kid.
Edit: now that I think about the conversion work they’ll have to do to remove full auto, we’re probably looking at $1700-1800 and up.

Just read that CMP will also be auctioning 1897 Winchester trench shotguns soon. ARGGHGGGHGH.
CMP CEO Gerald O’Keefe states M14 rifles will be priced UNDER TWO THOUSAND and they have approximately 100,000 of them to sell!

Interesting insight on history of CMP and some “behind the scenes” on the M14 sales:
… In almost all cases, the ATF maintains that if a gun was once a machine gun, it is always a machine gun. The M14s that are going to be sold through the CMP were machine guns, but the CMP is modifying them to semi-auto only, and the ATF has been persuaded to let it slide in this case. … The guns are technically still owned by the military until the moment before the buyer receives them. So legally, the CMP is a government-authorized drop shipper of surplus guns. …
