Clinton WMA Fall Clay Shoot 10-26-25

Invitation open to all NJGF members and your guests.

Howdy folks. It’s time for us to get together again and turn some money into noise. Come join us Sunday October 26th at the Clinton WMA shotgun range (see map below) for a morning of clay busting fun. You do not need a hunting license to participate.

200-3531422351

WHO: You, family, friends.
WHERE: Clinton WMA shotgun range. (look for a white truck flying Old Glory)
WHEN: Sunday October 26th 2025
TIME: 0900 (we will be setting up at 0830)

Please leave a comment below if you plan on attending, and if you will be bringing guests.

Shooting commences at 0900 and keeps going until we get bored, run out of ammo, or hear mom calling us home. Shoots usually go until about 1300, leaving plenty of time for everyone to join the party at any time.

As always, these meet-ups are casual gatherings, just plain old fun to promote shooting sports and encourage training, please feel free to bring friends and family.

Shooters of all experience levels are welcome. If you have never shot clays, or want some tips on improving your skills, this is your chance to dust off that ol’ shotgun in your closet and get some needed practice.

What you will need.

Bring your shotgun(s), as much #7.5 or #8 lead target/field loads as you want to shoot, and depending on how much you want to shoot, a carton of clay pigeons would be great. Clay targets are available at the Clinton Walmart.

Don’t forget eyes and ears. Also recommended is a chair, sun screen, insect repellent, and something to drink.

If you or your guests do not have a shotgun, and just want to see what clay choot’n is all about, no problem. We have a loaner pump action available.

Basic Checklist

  • Shotgun

  • Ammo

  • Eye and ear protection (mandatory)

  • Clay targets (optional but very much appreciated)

  • Shell pouch (optional)

  • Folding chair (optional)

  • Water

  • ** YOU DO NOT NEED A HUNTING LICENSE - If you do have a 2025 hunting license, please bring it in case we need to split the group.*

I have to look into getting a decent shotgun for trap/skeet. All mine are home defense/ tactical.

They’ll still shoot birdshot :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

most of the smoke poles at these shoots are not trap guns. We do the shoots to encourage people to train with whatever they have. My primary trap gun is a Browning over under but I frequently bring my tacticoolized 870, and even busted a few targets with a shockwave.

Nobody is keeping score at these meetups.

Good to know thanks. I still would like to look into a reasonably priced, over under.

We usually see a few of the “reasonably priced” O/Us at the shoots. Mossberg, CZ, Tri Star, Stoger and Stevens all make O/Us in the $500-$750 price range. They are very popular for casual trap, sporting clays and hunting.

Another avenue is the used market. While Brownings hold value, or even go up, many of the higher prced O/Us can be found in the $750 to $1,000 range.

An O/U is nice to have, but I have seen folks absolutely crush it using bone stock Rem 870s and Mossy 500s.

I’ve come to the conclusion that the O/U I am looking at are way out of my price range. Might just keep it sane and look at a CZ 712 G3 Target.

Appreciate the advise

Not sure I can make this one but will try. It’s been a while for me.

I can’t make this one

What ever you buy, get it in your hands and get its feel, I lusted at $2500 over unders only to hate them when I was able to handle them, found a CZ redhead premier on sale and it just clicked.

Can you still shoot lead at most of the, trap, skeet and sporting clay ranges and clubs in NJ?

Most allow lead. I can’t imagine anyone shooting a round of trap with steel or insanely expensive tungsten. Only one place I know of that is steel shot only, t is one of the WMAs in south jersey, Assunpink maybe. But generally speaking, you are gtg with lead shot.

Thanks man

Can try out my GForce Arms Filthy Pheasant 20ga. Got it for $350 shipped.

I think I can make this one - not 100% yet

See you guys Sunday *
