I’m hoping to find a location with the CCARE qualification course in NE NJ. I’ll even settle for NNJ but I don’t want to drive 2 hours each way.
I found one place on the web but their promotional video completely turned me off.
The shooting qualification was a big issue. There’s no way an instructor can properly monitor multiple students simultaneously who are shooting a course of fire of 50 rounds.
I can run a class by appointment in Phillipsburg, NJ.
When I run the shooting portion, I have a maximum of 2 people shooting if I’m the only instructor there.
I have watched thousands of guns go in and out of holsters as a match official at IDPA and USPSA matches. @Golfbattery is right. You’d be astonished by the number of ways people can screw it up.
Thanks for reaching out. Great, I can work with a competent person.
I’m in Maywood, between Paramus and Hackensack and have no problem coming out to you for the class.
I’ve had my NJ Firearms Purchaser Card since 2009 but none of my guns were purchased in NJ but were all purchased in Louisiana (I’m a legal dual resident). None of them are registered in NJ, nor do they have to be. I’ll have to register one of them for the CCW permit. Let me know if I need to do so for the course and I’ll get it done. I’ll use an M&P 9 Compact with a red dot for the course.
Right now my handguns are in limbo. I had 10 of them moved from Louisiana to NJ by United Van Lines and they did a lousy job so I’ve filed an insurance claim to have them inspected, test fired and sighted in by a factory authorized gunsmith. I am looking for one here in NJ so If you know of someone, I’d appreciate the reference. My stuff is S&W, Kahr, 1 Sig, and 1 Ruger 9mm Pistol (my wife’s).
I was a pioneer 15+ years ago in USPSA 9mm Open Major with S&W M&P’s and slide mounted red dot sights. One of my friends, Max Michel, who’s name you might be familiar with from Sig or USPSA, was a big help as were 2 gunsmiths and custom ammunition guys who developed and made the 9mm loads for me. I was also a pioneer in using a red dot on my EDC in the same time frame.
As soon as I get one of my guns back and we finish unpacking from our move from New Orleans to Maywood, I’ll be in touch to work out a schedule with you. I’ll be travelling from early February to late March.
I agree. Just like stu. I run 1 student at a time for live fire. I ask everyone to help pitch in to refill mags Then i score. While im scoring other students put up the new target. And i fill out paperwork while they’re doing that. So once youve shot paperwork is done and you can leave.
I’ve been down with a viral thing for most of the month and am about to head our for a rip through the end of March.
There are three instructors who’ve gotten back to me and I’ll be following up with all to select the person who I’ll learn from and test with. Probably in an April time frame.
