CCW renewal

You have to submit the new permit to PA??

Curious where you saw that.

I have a PA permit also, and it states that if your resident permit expires before your PA permit you have to notify them and your PA permit is invalid as well. I did not submit the new permit to PA since there was no break between my NJ permits.

@PopPop do you have an online source for this? I looked on the Delco sheriff’s site and don’t see anything.

Just got my new permit approved in Wayne. I found the online application to be a lot easier than the first time around, and it only took about a month, vs. a couple of months on the original. My current permit is valid through 3/1/24, but my new one is only good through 1/17/27, so I lost a month and a half. I guess the trick is to cut it as close as possible, even if it means having a slight gap between the old and new permits.

And for the money we pay, can’t they at least produce an official looking card as other states do, instead of a cheesy printout on plain paper? Yes, I realize it can be laminated, but come on.

I had to email the PA sheriff a photo copy of my renewed dated NJ CCW permit to keep the PA permit active since the PA CCW permit is good for 5 years

FYI, I just spoke to the Delco Sheriff’s office. They said no need to send them the updated/renewed permit, just to bring it next time I renew my PA CCW.

I remember reading it from the Delco website application process. Something about having to notify them if my resident state permit expires, or is revoked. Since my NJ permit was re-upped before it expired, I’m good. I don’t have to renew with PA until early 2028, at that point I would have to send proof of an active NJ permit.

So long as you don’t carry in PA while your NJ permit is pending, why tell them anything? They are only going to check your home state permit if they have reason to investigate, such as having to use your gun in PA.

Is there actual talk of a renewal process? Or is this just going to be a “new every two” money grab from this state?

That’s exactly what it is, I have seen no indication that there are any credible plans to change that.

Hopefully now that the application is online they have a ‘renewal’ method:

My initial application was on paper and signed off by a judge. My wife applied on the same day but was issued by the local PD since hers wasn’t sent to the court before they changed the process.
Hopefully now that it’s all electronic it will be easier in the future. I’d still like to see the fees reduced and the duration increased to renew every 5 years. I noticed they are no longer asking for fingerprints.

Beyond putting it on-line that is the only change, and I’m sure that anyone applying who does not already have fingerprints on record with NJSP (e.g. non-resident applicants) will still be required to furnish them, Had NJ not waived the requirement for redundant fingerprinting, they would probably have been susceptible to a relatively easy court challenge, which may well have been their only motivation. You don’t really think they are making any changes to any NJ firearms regulations to make things easier for us, or to better comply with the letter and spirit of 2A, do you?

Figures. I would love to see things like-

-Re-qualify is maybe every 5 or dare I say 10 yrs?
-$100 renew fee?

I know I’m dreaming over hear. But give me 5 mins to hope NJ pulls its thinker out of its pooper someday.

Wishful thinking but I doubt that would ever happen. RPO’s have to qualify twice a year. Guess they consider us lucky to have to qual once every two years

I ended up losing a week on my first permit. Wife and I applied on 1/22 and mine just came through this morning right at 2 weeks. I will update once hers come through.

An RPO buddy of mine also told me that their eligibility ends at age 75.

That was tossed out in a court case about 3 years ago. RPO have no age limit now.

My wife got her permit 2 days ago. 20 days from application.
