Im new to this site. Is this the old NJ gun forum which vanished like 2 years ago?
Anyway im not sure where to post this as this site is unusual, sometime in Feb next year my CCW permit will expire. I live in Fl and not familiar with the latest in renewals. Last time I took a course in S jersey and renewed my permit on line. How long is the qualification valid for? If its for 2 years if I apply before that time it should be good again. Have to be careful with that as last time the state police said to apply 4 months in advance and they renewed it within a month. I paid $200.00 for a year and 9 months. The next thing I saw was something about insurance. Is that mandatory? If it is goodbye permit for me as it becomes ridiculous to spend 4-6 hundred dollars for the few times Im in there. Thanks, Peter
Anybody that got their original permit through the courts got screwed when they renewed the first time because NJSP couldn’t be bothered to build their online system to take those permits into account. Since that renewal was in their electronic system, your next renewal permit will expire 2 years after your current permit, so long as they compete their process before that date. Applying for your renewal 4 months before your permit expires no longer has the penalty of losing months if they do their work promptly.
Your qual is good for 2 years. You should find that there is still time to renew using your last qual this time. You will need to qualify again for the following renewal.
The insurance requirement is still enjoined by the Federal District Court.
