Has anyone here built a Bolt Action Other If so lets see some Pics and Specs I’m thinking of building one in 300 BO.
What distinguishing features would you be looking for? Just a short barrel? If so, build it as a pistol. There is no evil feature list for non-semi-auto pistols. You can thread the barrel, have a detachable magazine, hell even slap on a bayonet lug. You don’t need a VFG either.
My thoughts were to purchase a complete bolt action upper with a short barrel but wondering about the legality of adding a stock or Brace Basically thinking of building my own getto Q Mini Fix without the 3K price tag but not sure how to stay within the legal boundries
The only thing you cannot do is put a rifle stock on it. A Pistol brace would make it remain a pistol.
Obviously, you would need a faux suppressor to mimic one of those pictured.
So basically a bolt action Upper on a AR 15 lower with a Brace folding or not, no FVG necessary, barrel length doesn’t matter and I’m good to go. Would I require a Pistol Permit ? Thank You for your input. Keith
That’s where you might get into sticky territory with NJ’s constructive intent murkiness.
If you have all the parts to make an assault rifle, you are deemed to be in possession of an assault rifle.
Therefore, if you have a regular 16" AR and you have this proposed AR based bolt pistol with a barrel less than 16" you could conceivably put the short upper on your rifle lower to make an SBR. This is also an issue with non-NFA Other firearms. It is generally accepted that if you have both complete firearms fully assembled, you are not going to get into trouble. As far as I know, this has not been tested in court so there is no precedential caselaw to be sure.
A stripped AR lower can be bought with just your FPIC. You do not need a pistol permit.
Could you build what you are after using a different receiver other than an AR receiver?
If I build this I would be buying a virgin lower and building from scratch the only AR part that I have is PDW Brace I have 2 ARs an AOW and a Other that are complete rifles so I will be purchasing everything new to build this one
Is the Q Mini Fix Pistol Legal in NJ without the Suppressor of course? With any length barrel.
Yes, it is legal in NJ in the pistol configuration. The restrictions in NJ only apply to semi-auto pistols. or semi-auto rifles.
You are still limited to a 10 round magazine because the magazine can be used in a semi-auto rifle.
Thank You Mr.Stu
The whole point of AOW and non-NFA Others is that they are NOT rifles, nor are they pistols.
