Amazon - Monstrum B.O.P. shotgun red dot

Just learned about this as an alternative to the $250 vortex sight which I’d been considering. Not a lot of reviews I can find on it yet besides one youtuber:

Use discount code

MONSTRUMBOP

to get it for $79.99 base price:

I ordered it this weekend, should come in today.

Amazon links may generate an affiliate commission for this forum, but there’s no difference in price for the purchaser

I was able to grab one of Monstrum’s RMR footprint optics and had zero issues with it. Probably wouldn’t trust my life to it but it was good for a range toy or competition gun.

So….what’s your impression? Thinking about one for the HD 870.

Post office delayed shipping, might arrive today.

Just arrived - won’t have a chance to mount it to 870 until later tonight.

They sure didn’t hold back on the fasteners included:

What, no duct tape? :face_with_tongue:

If it’s for a social gun, get the original version from Vortex at the least.

Otherwise an Aridus CROM and optic of your choice is a better bet - IMO.

Side access battery, enclosed emitter, only 3 screws for the whole set-up. What’s not to like. Spent more on a rodizio and sangria & tip with my crew last month.

Yep. The features are undeniably great. I mean why wouldn’t they be? They merely ripped-off Vortex’s original innovative design that has all the same features.

It’s the reliability that’s questionable. Buy once, cry once. Spend a little more now, or a lot more later.

Again - range toy? No issue - swing away. Life saving equipment - go for better value (higher price with commensurate higher quality) not lowest price.

With a barrel switch, my HD is my night time coyote rig. Reliability will certainly be tested during the special coyote season.

Mounted to 870, no actual range time with it yet.

Replaced what I had before - a picatinny base and Burris Fastfire 3 optic.

Quick attachment to the pre-existing receiver top screw holes that were already in the 870 receiver.

Pros/Cons so far:

Pros:

Reduced height-over-bore. Not sure exactly how much it’s reduced but the viewing glass/dot is much closer to the barrel now.

Reduced overall height - This is 1/4” shorter overall than the previous setup.

Bigger buttons - the side buttons are MUCH bigger than the tiny rubber dot on the fastfire.

Less projections sticking out to side - fastfire had a big mounting bolt that would snag, appreciate the much narrower and uniform case on this.

One piece - don’t have to worry about optic coming loose from the base.

Enclosed laser emitter - laser emitter is inside the housing, no chance of it getting obscured with dirt.

Cons:

3 receiver mounting screws instead of 4 on 870 - One of the receiver screw holes is covered by the optic.

Reduced view area - estimate the viewing glass on this is ~1/8” shorter than the Burris, but it’s also just slightly wider. Image above doesn’t accurately capture the viewing area differences.

Blue tint to glass - It is very slight, but it’s there. Especially noticeable when looking against light colored objects/backgrounds.

Typical laser-projected red dot optical distortions due to eyesight - If your eyes don’t like other laser-projected red dots because you see distortions/”starbursts” in the dots then you’re going to have the same issue with this one.

Gonna be a while before I get range time with it.
