I’m still trying to get used to the UI. I’m not really a fan so far. I prefer traditional forum UI.
I’m usually on an iPad and when I’m replying to a post, the reply takes up the entire screen, so I cannot see the prior posts to reference. On a desktop browser isn’t all that much better really.
Also, what’s the deal with the two windows when I’m composing. There’s the one I type in that’s duplicated next to it.
Maybe it’s just me, or I’m missing settings/options and I need to experiment more?
Hi Kevin - I never tried on iPad before. I see what you are saying the compose box comes up and you can scroll the post behind it. But when you click to type something the on-screen keyboard pops up and takes half the screen.
The reason you see 2 panels as you type the one on the right is how it will be displayed. So you may insert a link and then there will be a preview in the right panel.
Believe the 2nd window is displaying formatting and how the post will look. Displaying has asterisks surrounding it in the typing window.
For example, I used a < b > before this line, which obviously bolds the text
I did see a preview of a website in the 2nd window that I linked to in another thread
The text size of the subcategories of the main sections does seem a bit small on a desktop browser for me (but I do run 4k and text size is set to 100%). I do think I prefer a list of subcategories vs everything jumbled together. It looks OK on a phone from limited playing, but haven’t tried replying on there yet.
Hey Kevin - I was checking this out in multiple browsers and the Discourse app on an iPad and they all behave the same when replying unfortunately can not browse the post while composing. Unfortunately that aspect on Apple kind of sucks.
That said you can save a reply as a draft and return to the post and later resume the reply from where you left off.
I’m on a desktop now and while writing this reply I can scroll the topic in the background with the scroll bar. I am on Windows using Chrome at the moment.
Thanks for the responses and testing. I was thinking the right was a preview, didn’t consider or try links, fonts, etc… as reason why.

Get to trust level 2 by…
- Visiting at least 15 days, not sequentially
- Casting at least 1 like
- Receiving at least 1 like
- Replying to at least 3 different topics
- Entering at least 20 topics
- Reading at least 100 posts
- Spend a total of 60 minutes reading posts
If you urgently need to list something please let me know and I will add you to the sellers group that has immediate access bypassing the trust level 2 restriction.
